Its pretty amazing how many of us feel this in our child hood. I used to sleep over at my friends house every weekend. They had a fan in their room, at first it used to be really annoying, but overtime became comfortable. Now I cant sleep without fan sounds lol.

@@randombutrelevant There's a number of apps for your smartphone of choice that are noise generators. My favorite is Better Melodies (oops, looks like they changed the name to Better Sleep now.) My old/previous cellphone just stays on my nightstand, hooked up to a small speaker setup. I only use it for a white noise generator and alarm clock. Better Sleep allows you to select multiple noise types (fan noise, gentle stream, outside night with crickets, regular white noise, rain or heavy rain or rain with thunder, etc.) and you can set the volume of each individual noise to come up with your perfect noise mix.

I would clip a sheet around the outside of a box fan, weigh down the edges so it made an inflated tunnel and sleep in there before I had central air.

Instead of sleeping in a stuffy bed, I have a cot for putting up when tent camping, and I sleep on that because it breathes really well. I get a sheet from my king size mattress and stuff it under the pad on the cot and put the box fan at the opening, making a big tunnel. It's the coolest way to sleep when it's 80-90F outside and no AC.

Box fans make the best air purifiers. You get one of the square air filters from a renovation shop like Home Depot and just tape it to the back and boom, best air cleaner you can get. It literally fits on them perfectly. . Been running one in my house for the last year. Makes a world of difference. The air is so clean.

Great idea... don't know why I didn't think of that! Not sure about `best` but if you already have a fan, it's a lot cheaper than buying an actual air purifier. Only thing I want to point out, having the filter on it will restrict the airflow (duh) and might make the motor on the fan work a little harder, cause it to heat up, and probably reduce the life of the fan a little bit. I don't care - next time I'm at the House Depot/Lowez I'm picking up a pack of filters. Thanks!

people have done tests on these sorts of filters (called "CR boxes") and it turns out they actually work extremely well (just at the cost of fan noise and space)! I think usually people use a few filters in a cube shape instead of just one, it's worth reading more about if you're interested in this!

It resonates with your mind taking you back to noises in the womb. That's why many ASMR artists will talk and eat because that's also heard. Another example is the swaddling and swishing technique used on newborn babies to soothe them back to sleep. The swishing you do into the baby's ear simulates the sound while the tight swaddle simulates the tight quarters just prior to birth.

I struggle terribly falling and staying asleep. Top that with Tinnitis that gets super loud when it's quiet and I lay down. I was using cricket sounds to drown out the ringing in the ears but it would wake me up. For the last 3 nights I have used this sound and within 15 minutes I'm asleep, and I'm sleeping HARD. I think this is more brown noise than white noise (brown being a deeper lower frequency). I prefer this deeper sound. Masks other sounds better. Great for sleeping. Thank you for making and sharing it! Excellent!

Ive slept with a box fan for years. Added an air filter a year ago. 20x20 fit perfectly. The filter is noticeably darker after a month or two.

The sound of the fan is nice and all. But the noise and air combo is great. Especially with the window cracked open a little when it’s 64 degrees outside.
