Which books are you guys talking about? are there more shorts like this or a DnD animated series? He was originally written as a supporting character for the stories where Wulfgar was set as the focal point. The amount of writing to make an outcast interesting and palatable created a character that could pull at your heart strings. Troubled, many faceted, in an abusive society yet he still found the spark of compassion inherent in all creation. Add a warrior mindset and years of training under his father who was arguably the best martial trainer in all of Menzoberranzan and a hero was cast out of the fires of trials, tribulation, dramas and treachery and the quest for love. Yes, in his endearing quest for right and compassion an icon was brought forth out of the ether of time. All from the mind of one man.

I was happy when Zak'Nafaen was brought back to life that while we know him from Homeland, he was not a perfect man. When he finds out Drizzt married a human, he is livid. He hasn't had Drizzt's experiences and has never known humans as anything other than uneducated, short lived, weak slaves. He's *polite* at first, but the shocked biggotry is there, because Zak is a product of his city. At least until his granddaughter is born and he turns into a melted puddle anyway

I think a lot of people complain about how D&D players and fanfic writers have created their own “good Drow,” and now Drizzt doesn’t feel so unique. But I had a discussion with my friend last night who pointed out that it actually works quite well if you think of Drizzt not as an outlier but as a pioneer. There HAVE to have been more Drow who were uncomfortable with their society’s backstabbing, corrupt ways, but who kept quiet out of self-preservation. So you could think of it as Drizzt not only defying that society but surviving being what encouraged the others to come out of the woodwork.
@fireidar Жыл бұрын
Well Drizzt wasn't the only one. His father, Zaknafein, was the same as him, except he didn't have the courage his son had to defy and stand by his ideals\beliefs. He 'bowed' to Drow society and repressed his feelings in hatred of their society until he learned of his son's feelings, and gave his own life in sacrifice for his son, giving him a reason to finally break his last link to their world and leave. If Zaknafein hadn't been sacrificed as 'punishment' for Drizzt's actions, he may have remained, if only for his father. Which makes you think, if HE didn't have the courage to leave and just obeyed, no matter how much he hated them, how many other male Drows are there doing the same? Repressing who they are because they see no other choice?
@OthelloSilvermoon Жыл бұрын
I think it's heavily implied lore wises he's the reason there is a civil war going on right now in the underdark (follow drow raising up against lolth, seeing her for what she really is a demon) pretty common Knowledge that most Male drow are treated like shit, (only get better treatment if you are 1 noble, and 2 you shut up and let the Matriarchs talk) they are only treated slightly better than slaves, is it any wonder that the first drow to rebel where the males?

Was it Drizzt's brother or father killed the other brother so Drizzt could live.

He's not in the video game for which this short was essentially promo material. Apparently the game was too combat-focused for him to be considered as a playable character, since he's more of a coward and a thief in the early novels.
