The hype is mainly about their recent single The Summoning, almost every song of theirs is a different experience and worth checking though.

Alkaline is definitely a nice introduction to Sleep Token, in fact the first song I heard, but they have such a range in their discography! The Summoning is the track that’s blowing them up right now. Positioned at number 1 viral song in Spotify in the US and 4th globally. I can see why, but it’s not my personal favourite. I adore Granite at the minute, but it does depend on my mood at the time! The Offering is the song that first blew me away by them.

I feel the talk that is being had recently about sleep token in the "metal" community is valid. Are sleep token metal? Well the chuggy guitars and occasional breakdown would suggest yes. The pop style vocals and constant electronic drum patterns would also suggest no. Sadly sleep token are a true archetypal hybrid band. They are metal and they aint. Its a true love them or hate them band. And that stabs right at the heart of so called "true metalheads". I totally get if people dont like sleep token. I myself love metal and have done for a great many years. I love alot of different genres not just metal. This band scratched a itch i didnt know i needed scratched and ticks alot of boxes for me. Its not everyones cup of java but as has been said this band could singled handed bring alot more folks to metal which i think is a great thing in of itself.

You def should check out their new singles bc their older music is amazing, as you've discovered, but the new singles are somehow even better. Like they've definitely levelled up since Alkaline, which is saying something bc this was a banger. And I think the claim that they're "revolutionizing" metal is more that they are grabbing the attention of a lot of non-metalheads and actually drawing them into the genre, or at least they're giving the genre a chance. I def recommend listening to The Summoning and Vore out of their new singles.

Vessel (the singer for ST) is an amazing lyricist - You should definitely check out all of their newest stuff, but for lyrical content Aqua Regia is my favorite of the new songs. From their older stuff: Jaws, Bloodsport (I recommend the From the Room Below version), Calcutta, and Atlantic are lyrical masterpieces. worship

This song is great and I love it, but it doesn't highlight Vessel's vocal range. The Offering and The Summoning do an amazing job at that The Summoning you should check out next. It's got everything you're hoping for and then more. I won't explain any further than that lol

Personally I hear a lot of Hozier in the singers sound. Almost as if he wanted to test the waters with alt rock/rock.
