There's a musical inside joke at the heart of this song: Sleep Token is a metalcore band who often does a metal breakdown at the end of their songs (here they do it in the middle), but at the end of this song they do a "breakdown" in the style of 60's funk/soul music, which is where the concept of the breakdown originated. So, if listeners are expecting a big breakdown at the end, they get it, just not the type they were expecting. The ambient section is clever too in that it functions as a palate cleanser so the shift in styles isn't jarring and doesn't come across as wacky, à la Mr. Bungle or something.

I see sleep token totally doing it with this new album just like Spiritbox with their new three releases being something brand new to the band, and yet it fits so flawlessly. Its the same feeling here. I heard one song from this band (which was actually The Offering, one of what I feel like is their catch, radio style songs to hook people) and it was completely over. This was my second most listened to artist in 2022 behind Spiritbox and seeing them release more amazing music AND pushing the boundaries of post-hardcore/deathcore/metal (whichever you categorize, hard to define for these guys, LOL) unlike most 'cookie cutter bands' :D
