Deep dive into Michael Tagg's fantastic big-block, 4-speed 1967 Fairlane that runs 9s. Ultimate sleeper look with one of the coolest engine bays we've seen. Perfectly prepared, bench seat, old-school vibe with huge naturally aspirated power.

I could listen to that BB 427 all day, those T bolts and fairlane left the line so nice and straight. The camaro in the other lane lost before they did their burnout.

Thank you for sharing. It brought back memories of a time in the 70s when an AHRA pure stock 427 car from Laredo, Texas showed us his taillights. The car was well prepared and ran near the record for his class.

427 2 door post car!!!! super, super rare. the FE series motors are the most beautiful motors to come out of my home town, Detroit. what a super nice car man, love that gree metallic. my dad had A 66 fairlane, 427 toploader 4 speed, he used to race at Detroit dragway. he even beat Huston Martin (RIP) (Harold Martin's dad) in a trophy class once. it was a raggedy POS looking car but that 427 was a screamer.

OMFG, that slow-motion launch!!! Those sidewalls wrinkling!! THE WHEEL-LIP WAS 1-2 INCHES FROM THE TRACK SURFACE ON THE HIT!!! That was f'ing sick! Looked like a little wheel-hop or shake later in the tire-spin, especially on the passenger side, though. One of my friends had a dark blue '66-'67 two door sedan like that, but it was a 289. He had some HiPo heads and an intake and Holley 4 barrel on it, but it was always put away and I never heard it run.

Put it at 1/4 speed and watch it. Looks like the wheel touches the strip!
@danmyers9372
@danmyers9372 2 жыл бұрын
That could explain what looks like wheel hop. Tire pressure may be a little too low causing the tire to wad up.

@@edwardhasiak7961 Yeah you can see the wheels actually bounce off the pavement a little! That's the best view of how slicks function that I think I've ever seen.

@@HighlanderNorth1 I am sure he looses forward momentum because of it.
@HighlanderNorth1
@HighlanderNorth1 2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardhasiak7961 I didn't think of that, but I guess he needs to add slightly more air to the slicks. Obviously he's watched this video, so I'd bet he's already attempted to remedy the situation.

My dad also had a few different 66/67 fairlane’s gt’s and gta’s when I was growing up they are great cars. Nothing plant’s you in the seat like a good running big block. You can stroke a small block to make those cubic inches but they don’t make that torque down low in the RPM’s like a real big block does. Thanks Evan

Fantastic! One of the all time greats and one of my favorites! One almost exactly like it was for sale in our local Greensheets when I went shopping for my first car. It had the side oiler and a spare 428CJ to go with it. Light weight factory panels and all for $3,300. That's 33 hundred NOT Thousand. Since I was only 16 and only managed to scrape up $700 working summer jobs, I bought a beat up 65 fast back instead that had been used for circle track, which I still have today (project). My parents (thank god) did not just give you stuff, you had to earn it.

"Waldos old car. I live in PNW and seen his 67 stocker, 40 years ago , he set the record 1st Stock car in NHRA to go 10's. He was flat good with a factory 4 sp and factory std shifter assembly, IMO easily as Ronnie Sox, with conventional floor linkage shifter. The ERA Jim Van Cleve his two fairlanes. That big boat of a car FLEW!!! In the 78 Fall classic in Seattle, I witness Jim's car go rear bumper scrape wheelie in 3RD Gear!!! Unprecedented beast Power machine! It was a 9 second Fairlane , way beyond his years. In 1978, nobody else anywhere was doing this. Then, Dennis Miller in Mid Oregon , his white 427 Fairlane. He was good too, Fast 427 car. Then My 67 Fairlane, 428 powered car, ran 12.00's with a basic no nothin daily driver type street engine. I Won a lot of races in the ERA . Loved going to races those guys showed up. It was for decades, typical the Ford 428 Engines, dominated drag racing in winning in the tracks in the area. I was fortunate to be part of it. Wasn't the fastest yet was one guy ppl Didn't was to see pull thru the gates car on the old flat bed trailer. Still have the 427 fender emblems from the early 70's.

My first car was a 66 fairlane, 390 428 Cobra Jet heads C6 370 years Wimbledon white with blue interior, daily driver. But my favorite is a 67 XL, had one was restoring, blue on blue, ex-wife was complaining about my toys, sold the car and my pristine 60 Ranchero 65 Fairlane and a few motorcycles, trying to keep her from 🤬 then she fooled around with the busboy on her job. I sure miss my 67 😪

Love it!!!! Love everything about it. How cooler can you get with the period correct look and it’s a stick. The wheel combo hits it off, and the Autolite puts it over the top. Lots of restored show cars don’t even put a period correct battery in. I’d change the badge to 482.

My '57 Ford Custom 2 doors sedan, I went the other way with its 427 engine. I de-stroked it. The car weighs 2819 pounds and it's best run, 9.86 with 6:00 Detroit Locker rear gears this past June at NE Nationals in NH. I originally built the car back in late 1969 for NHRA E/G and E/MP. 3 years ago, I did a re-fresh job to the car and a few more mods. With today's tires, better ignition system, the car is quicker/faster. It's still 100% street legal but has 3:70 Detroit Locker rear gears on the street.

I love this car! But like everyone I gotta throw in my 2 cts. With the way this car PLANTS the tires, maybe an extra 1-3 lbs in the tires might keep the rim from bottoming out and maybe cutting a tube, and maybe it won't wad the tire up as much which would help with reaction time of the car winding up or shake the tires, which might drop the 60ft. Also maybe change the settings on rear shock dampening, but I bet you've experimented with this to no end.

Totally cool car! Surprised that he is still getting a bit of spring wrap/wheel hop with the Cal-tracks. Curious if he is running a factor spring or an aftermarket leaf spring? Also surprised that he still has the factory shock towers on a car that he races. Anyone who has been around FE engines knows that accessing the spark plugs with the factory shock towers in place is beyond a pain in the butt.
