On a trip to Cape Canaveral, Florida we decided to take the kids to the Kennedy Space Center where SpaceX and Blue Origins launches rockets to space. We took the complete tour and rides there. This is a review of the facility, did we love it? Let's find out!

Fun fact about the F1 rocket engine, it has over 1 million components making it work, even at the acceptable 0.1% failure rate that means 1000 parts of the engine would be expected to fail during a successful flight. To say these guys were brave is an understatement.

Jeff Bezos sponsored a salvage operation to raise one set of the F1 engines. After all these years, they still had drawings but no expertise on all the little techniques that were developed by the people who worked on them. "Hold your tongue on the left side of your mouth on Tuesdays, or the bolt won't go in." There are lots of little quirks and methods that will have to be developed again, even though the new engines will be a new design.

@@odahithedubious2017 yeah all tech data on mercury Gemini Apollo programs left in storage rooms and to be tossed...ancient data tapes of lunar orbiter program were to be trashed but lady took dumpersters of tape to her home. Bought the surplus tape machines. From. 60s. Current tech guys fixed the decks and read the data and transferred to modern PC s. Stunning pics from. 1960s..called. Mc moon project. Google it

"Enough touchings" 😂😂😂😂 Another fun fact: The Saturn 5 and crawler were so heavy it crushed the gravel on the pathway to the lauch site into powder....it weighed something like 20,000,000 pounds or about 10,000 tons. THAT'S HEAVY. Thanks for sharing, guys!

Both of my kids were lucky enough to have overnight sleepovers at NASA through their school that I chaperoned. One time we got to sleep underneath the space shuttle, and another time we got to sleep underneath the Saturn five. It was an awesome experience, and one none of us will ever forget.

Is $400 worth it, well in money, prolly not. In the family experience all of you will carry throughout your lifetimes, id havta say then its priceless. Time with ur family, with your children, watching them experience the enjoyment, wonder and yes even education of it all, i dont think $400 is too high a price to pay for that.

Dang son! You all need to get up to DC and see the Smithsonian. The Air and Space Museum has the Wright brother’s plane, the Spirit of St Lewis and a bunch of Apollo stuff. The annex at Dulles airport has the Enola Gay, the SR-71 and the Shuttle. Plus hundreds more historic planes hanging from the ceiling. They also have American History, Natural History, The National Portrait Gallery, and the National Museum of the American Indian plus many more! All free!!! Not to mention all of the other historic places in town…

I was in Florida for the first Shuttle launch, Columbia. I picked up a hitchhiker, a young student from Texas who had helped in the construction. His pass allowed us to get to the press/staff area. Couldn't believe my luck. The ground shook as that rocket went up. Left us all in awe ever since. I don't think you or your family will be talking about the cost of your visit in 50 years time...

My dad used to drag me all over to go to places like this when I was a kid and we had an absolute blast. Even got to see an SR71 take off, do a flyover, and land at an air show once.

On my 9th birthday, way back in 1981, i asked my parents for only one thing, the day off from school on the 10th of April (the original launch date for the STS-1, which got scrubbed at the last moment). I got to stay home to watch live as the Shuttle Columbia rose from the earth, unfortunately the scheduled launch was postponed until Sunday, 12 April. I got that Friday off from school, and sat, glued to the TV, as i watched "LIVE" as they counted down and then, postponed the launch. I've always been space nerd at heart and so that was probably the best "gift" of my entire life. I still got to see the live launch though, since it occurred the following Sunday, 12 April 1981.

When I was a kid I lived just up the road from there and when the Shuttle would launch the whole house would shake. You could see the windows and the garage door moving.

I retired last year, my job was to build wiring and cables for satellites. I was blessed to be able to follow two of our projects all the way to launch. It was one of the most exciting and memorable things I've ever done. I'm happy for you all, I never went to Disney, but I'll always have those memories of the Cape, it meant so much to me. My Dad was a technical writer in the space industry in Texas in the early 60's. I think he would have been proud to know I was working in the industry too. There are a LOT of really good restaurants in the area, along the coast and also in Titusville. The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in DC is another great place to visit, it has a bunch of exhibits all the way from the very first hot air balloons up to the Shuttle era and beyond. There's also a Moon rock there, so I've touched two. If you're interested in airplanes as well as space, it's a great way to spend a day, and a fair amount less expensive than the Cape. I'm glad you're sharing these experiences with us. All the best to you all.

They do launches at least a couple times a week now. We go to Cocoa Beach quite often and watch them. Affordable hotels on the beach so you can watch the launch and the view is amazing.

Chrysler made the rocket boosters for the Apollo missions, Chrysler's Air-Temp department handled the cooling, Ford made the escape modules I believe, Philco built the monitors, the spacesuits were made by a ladies stocking factory. It's crazy how many companies were involved to get man to the moon. Also as a Canadian myself I had a huge smile on my face when I saw the Canadarm. Awesome looking facility and great job filming it.

We lived in the Mojave desert on Edward's Air Force base and the space shuttle used to land on the dry lake beds because it needed such a long runway. My dad and brother used to guard the space shuttle I got to go inside it. I went to school on the base called Desert High and we would get out of school on the days it would land. We would set up as a family drink Pepsi and eat sandwiches and just watch it land. I had the BEST childhood.

Oh my goodness! I was so excited to watch but I will have to wait. This was my Dad's favorite place to go. He went to many launches and watched the rest on the television. He passed away April 6 of this year. He was 83 and I was able to be his caregiver. I am 63 and have been to the space center so many times.

I was there about 20 years ago, was disappointed. Looks like a lot more there, now. Was also there in 1967, my uncle got us a semi-private tour; he just drove up to the gate & they let us in. I remember seeing the crawler & transporter up close. You should go to Huntsville, AL, Marshall Space Flight Center, most of the rockets were designed there. BTW, I believe the shuttle landing strip is available to rent. Adam LZ & his team raced cars up & down it.

Thanks for taking us along! Looks like a ton of fun! You need to go to the National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. It's free, but if you want to do the simulators there's a fee. It's very nice and so many kinds of "air vehicles" from the Wright brothers to war machines and the space shuttle that you can get inside. It takes a day to go through all 3 of the huge hangars. Great memories made!

We visited Cape Kennedy when Apollo 15 was on the launch pad in 1971. Wish we could have watched the launch. The Saturn V had 5 engines that made 1,027,000 horsepower per engine. The Saturn V holds the record for the largest payload capacity to low Earth orbit, 311,152 lb. Remember Philco Ford? Mission Control in Houston? In addition to designing and building out the control center, Philco-Ford provided technical and engineering support personnel during construction and ongoing operations. Just sayin'. I was there in 1988 when Sleeperdude was probably still a cute little newborn. I was on temporary duty at McDill AFB near Tampa and I went there with a bunch of Air Force buddies. I was still a single man so it didn't break the bank but still expensive.

Can't wait to watch this. I live in Palm Bay which is on the Space Coast and have been blessed to go for many years. What's fun is during the month of October is the "Salute to Brevard" where Brevard residents can get in and take 6 others in their group for $20 per person. If y'all are still in the area me and my sister own one of, if not the largest bookstores in Brevard called NU2U Books in Melbourne, if y'all ever make the pilgrimage it's definitely worth it. We had a holiday (sorry, vacation!) in Florida 7 or 8 years ago. Primarily we went for the Disney/Universal etc theme parks but, for me, the absolute highlight was the Kennedy Space Centre. I'm still in awe of the technology and the bravery required to get us into space, its absolutely incredible and it was worth the flight from England alone. WOW is the perfect word for this place!

Always worth the cost, NASA facilities are an educational and entertaining time for sure. I have stories, I am old, but on a spaceflight training company BOD and have been on a panel with 7 astronauts, friends with a couple and still miss my buddy Rick Searfoss greatly. what the hay ? I guess their will be no build work this week , bummer . when I was growing up , we never had any vacations . I was there for the last shuttle launch . it was a perfect evening , the sky was clear , and the launch was perfect . we felt the rumble of the engines taking off , and we were a mile and a half away . I WILL NEVER FORGET IT . I can close my eyes and see it to this day . GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR BRAVE ASTRONAULTS .
