"and as i stood there, looking up at those old wooden gates, tattered and worn by nothing short of time i realized that all of the sounds around me were starting to fade, and even in the distance the silence moved like a Ghostly Spirit to cover the lands with a soft hush, but also with a sort of longing emotion. As the sounds and music and voices rang into the quietness covering all, i began to feel a sadness. An all but infinite emotion came over me slowly, gently, like rain drops from an approaching summer rain as my tears began to fall down through the clouds that we all stood on now. Then i heard a Sound that i had heard so many times before, but couldnt remember when, or where. The Sound of Silence was now upon everything that ever had an ear to hear..." [1] And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. [2] And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.

My grandfather was a simple man. He did manual work all his life for the local council. His only fault was that he was a heavy smoker. He once fell asleep with a cigarette in his mouth and burnt his sweater. But this lovely old man had a passion, and his passion was astronomy. I will always remember the large books that he would lay on his table and show me photos of the stars and the galaxy's millions of light years away. Now whenever I listen to this beautiful song I don't mind admitting, even at 74 years of age, it brings tears to my eyes. A fabulous piece of music that takes me back every time I listen to it.

This song has helped me a lot during my early 20s. As an 27 year old now, my mom is dealing with cancer and I hate thinking of life without her. She’s doing ok but it’s still scary.

I’m creating a playlist for when my time comes and I have a celebration of life. This song is one of the first 3 to be played along with Hollow Coves and Novo Amor, possibly Ben Howard’s “Promise” and R.E.M.’s “Nightswimming”. So that other’s may discover the joy and shear pureness that these songs put into me in times of strife and toil.
