Sleeping in a 2023 Tesla Model X Plaid (6-seater)

you should take out one or both of the middle row seats. I'd put a swivel on the front passenger seats and pull out all the other seats and the centre console and build a more useful space, which is the set up on my 90s Toyota people carrier. unless the rear seats fold up enough that it's easier to leave them in.

Cool construction! It's now like a business class seat in an airplane with this kind of tight leg space. Also pretty sweet that you can control doors and heat from your phone when already lying back there!

Congratulations for you dream car and good to see the video. Based on my experience, 1. Set Auto mode, temp. at 24C. 2. Enable rear fan. 3. Buy one small humidifier. It will need 15~30% power for 9 hours based on outside temperature(+10C~ -10C). Enjoy your Tesla life.

Using a higher fan speed may help spread the heat around the cabin so that you feel warm enough without needing to raise the temperature as high. This could save some battery too. I'm curious how much energy you'll save when 2 people are sleeping overnight. I imagine the extra body heat is significant.

Too bad plaid doesn't come with a 7 seat, otherwise, I would bought one. I don't think I could sleep in a 6 seater with my son. Also, just throwing this out, I'm disappointed with the Cybertruck not having a pass through to the bed.

@@Franklinsone I ended up getting the 7 passenger that folds flat. I'm not impressed with Cybertruck particularly when originally it was to have a 500 miles range. When all seats are folded in the Tesla X, its length is 7' 1" the Cybertruck bed is only 6'4"

@@LanceJDanks Cybertruck's bed is 6' :( wish it was 6'4" so I can fit. The range is disappointing too. I'm consistently thinking how I can make it work or not. This is why I'm watching older videos on Model X. May have to let the CT go and get a 7 seater X.

Excited to see this! I got my Tesla X 6 seater last September and haven’t had a chance to try it out but looking forward to it. I’m a lot shorter than you at 5’2” female so I don’t think it will be too difficult at all. My husband has an Tesla 3 5 seater so if we go together we will probably have to take his car, lol. I plan to put my Alpicool 20L compressor fridge down the middle of the seats and hope that will give me a good base. I have a Jackery 500 that should be able to run it overnight with no problems. Suggestions: turn the heat off up front and just run the heat in the back seats. Get a 12v fan that you can position where you need it to blow the air. I plan to bring a small rechargeable dehumidifier whenever I’m in the car for long since I don’t like the idea of all that moisture building up at night (just breathing you can lose up to a liter of fluid). I love my Exped mega mat duo 10 sleeping pad, but not sure how well it will work out. It has a R-9.5 insulation rating, so I don’t think I would need to run the heat much at all since it radiates your body heat back to you. I know they make lots of different size sleeping pads and I used it in the Honda pilot all the time cuz it can contour around the edges, unlike a fixed platform. I suggest that you bring some type of battery pack with you for charging things so you don’t have to tap into the Tesla battery as much. It would be a drag to get somewhere and then not have enough power to get back to charge. My Jackery has two 200w foldable solar panels, so I can charge that battery while I camp.

Thanks for your advice! I recently slept in the Model X 6-seater with my girlfriend. We both had our legs between the middle row which was definitely tight but not as bad as expected... I will probably remove one of the seats soon to get more space ;)

I’ve got a better upgrade for your camping. I found a cooler style refrigerator that fits perfectly between the seats and perfectly level with the folded down seats. Behind the captains chairs I simply use inflatable foot stools from Amazon. I then custom cut a 4” foam mattress. I’ll keep the passenger rear seat fully back until bed and there a a huge amount of room… dinner on my fridge table. Anyway, it’s awesome having a full-time fridge, comes in handy all the time. An electric scooter with an inch hacked off the handlebars to fit in the frunk ;-)

Well.. for your laptop- each USB-c outlet gives 36 watts of power. So if your have lot of USBc ports.. (most laptops have 3-4 of them) you can run 3 or 4 cables in to your laptop and video edit.

Slept in ALMOUST every car I have owned. Not my first car, but first car I slept in is a Ford Galaxy, basicly a Wv Sheran. Awful car, but to sleap in its more spacious than a Hummer. Next is my BMW 5 series touring, not grat space but you can fit 2 persons in the back, but for me, as also a long person I coulndt stretch out my legs, but decent. Will try my in order Tesla model Y this spring/summer, which I have seen you try aswell. Happy to discover you'r channel Mr. Joel. ;)

The second problem is that you disabled auto, meaning that at fan speed 1, the HVAC could not keep up providing heat faster than heat losses. With the latest software update there are 3 levels of auto (low, mid, high), so next time you can try keep the climate on auto / low. Also make sure you are not blocking the middle row air vents. To preserve heat, I am not sure how much would help to have on some window blockers (like the ones Bjorn uses). The general consensus for camping around freezing temperature is ~1% / h. Congrats for your car! I would be happy with just the Model S dual motor (no need for Plaid craziness 😆).

Excellent presentation. For two people maybe consider two levels at the feet end. One side slopes down slightly and the other slopes up slightly, like two levels of a parking garage.

Try out a Tesla X. They come in 5, 6 or 7 seater but 6 is my favorite. That extra space in the center is perfect for extra cargo, getting to the 3rd row faster, tall items, a 3rd row passenger with longer legs… or space for a large dog. The 2 center captain chairs don’t fold flat, only the 3rd row. In the newer 7 seaters the 2nd & 3rd rows both fold flat.

Dude, that is awesome! I have slept in my Y since I bought it in 2020 and am now looking at getting a Plaid Model X. I think I will put my fridge in between the middle seats for my legs instead. A cooler or a fridge would be perfect for ya instead! Plus, you would be able to put all your food from Aldi in it, too. I also suggest a GoSun oven so you can cook things in it as well.

Should of just got the long range 5 seater. Keep aircon on Auto and make sure the rear fan is on. If no weight detected on second row the rear fan doesn't turn on, need to do manually on screen each time...

Car is awesome, the 6 seats are perfect if you have children, it would be my option cos i got children, but to sleep in it the 5 seats would be much better, more room with the seats down. Next time try to increase the fan power but lower the temperature, to see the difference in energy saving. That’s why you had your feet warm and head cold at 18c the fan power was very low not enough to push the heat all the way to the back.

I think I would prefer the model Y for road trips becuase their is more room in the back for sleeping. Even though the model X is faster and has gullwing doors. If tesla made a vehicle just for roadtrips it would probably be way better than just using a SUV.
