some quick lore. in Warframe. this song is about a captain who chases down a "ghost ship" that killed all her crew. this song plays in-game with the dialog before being: "I was working in an exosuit when the Tempstarii (the ghost ship) destroyed Lucretia Platform (a space station). I drifted for days among the frozen fragments of my crew. My Sisters. I dreamed their dead, gaping mouths were singing with me yet.". so yeah. pretty dark considering she never succeeds and gets sent into the void herself.

New genre - 'space shanty'! Really loved their ending too with that all white background. As if they were dreaming together while in cryogenic sleep. Most other covers of this song I've heard had a more Celtic folk sound. This really 'bopped'. And it had a bit of Omar's more 'rock' voice which we don't hear as often. The three 'tenors' in this were all blending so well and yet each stood out as himself. And I loved Layne's 'beats' in this! As well as Geoff's tone. "Wuh!" will now become a new exclamation!

What to say....? Your reaction was on point... VERY slick and over-produced (my opinion). I had to go listen to the 'original source.' After hearing THAT, it's even MORE impressive to hear what Geoff did with it to make it palatable. The original was (again, MY opinion) uninteresting musically and very rambling/confusing lyrically. Even with VoicePlay's magical talent, it's still somewhat average. The visual effects ARE pretty stunning. You KNOW I love VoicePlay. Just not this one. (I truly hope you don't mind having a dissenting, yet respectful, opinion from the majority of Voice Playahs)

These guys are great singers, but this version of the song is a complete miss and completely disregards the style of song and history that this song was designed for, i.e., Sea Shanti's. There is such thing as over production. As far as I'm concerned, they butchered the song. 😢
