Hey Kev, great video. I had my first overnight hot tent experience just last month. We had many of the same issues as you, but here's a tip that we found hugely helpful: fill a nalgene container with boiling water and bring it in your sleeping bag with you. It will stay very warm for a good 2-3 hours. You can even let it sit in your sleeping bag for a bit before you get in to heat it up ahead of time.

I hope your first time was good overall. My wife does the Nalgene thing but I might have to get on the band wagon too. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Just got my hot tent. Yesterday did the first burn at our backyard and put up the tent for the first time. Can't wait to test it. Normally used to less comfort during winter camping. Greetings from Finland!

I had a lot of the same issue you experienced my first night out. You learn as you go for sure. I also just used that exact same mattress last night for the first time. I found it hard to stay on it while sleeping. Was thinking maybe a sheet on top wouldn’t make it as slippery Great video glad to see you finally get a night out in it. Take care.

I think these are some common begginer issues. I could see a sheet possibly working to make the mattress less slippery. I slept on it since and made it a little less firm and that seemed to also help a bit. Although that could possibly reduce the a R value as well. Thanks for watching!

Great vid once again. When you use a fire rod it is better to use the back of your knife ( 90 degree spine) this way you u will not damage the edge of your knife. 😊

Hey Claude. Thanks for the comment. My knife has a notch for the a fire rod at the base of the blade by the handle. I can see how it looks like I'm using the blade though.

Why don't you use those one time use/disposable hand and feet warmers in your sleeping bag? Pile up snow around the bottom of your tent where there's gaps. You need to dress warmer, maybe long johns and a sweat suit.

The warmers could work. I definitely had the snow piled arounf the tent. Only small gap was by the door. Long johns were definitely on. I don't go anywhere in the cold without them. 🤣
