ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti gives a tour of her "bedroom" aboard the International Space Station. It is equipped with two laptops that provide voice over IP service for phone calls, internet, (which she says is "not super fast,") and more. -- Showering In Space: Samantha Shows Off Hygeine Corner: goo.gl/zf4oeO

This is so dreamy. How cool, if only there sleep quarters had window view wonder if they would ever fall asleep being so fascinated by what they see on the planet.

the russian side has windows in their sleep quarters. it's almost impossible to find a picture or video of them, though. they're not very fun with showing the world their part of the station

@@skramincI saw on video from the Russian side. It didn't include the bedrooms thought. The Russians are a lot better at designing for long term comfort. The US is more focused on maximizing function rather then making it feel like home.

anamarvolo I was thinking the same thing myself. I couldn't sleep! I would be far to consumed with the overwhelming fact that I, myself, was actually in orbit and the view that only a handful of others have ever seen would never grow dull. Surely, given enough time I may pass out as I float about having the time of my life, but not because I was trying to sleep.

I wonder how it feels like to return to Earth after spending a long time in space. Imagine jumping, expecting yourself to float to the other side but you fall back down, realising that you are bound by gravity.
@c140075
@c140075 9 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Lim You would be too weak to jump. If you watch what happens after the crew comes back from space you'll see people actually carrying them be cause they're so weak. Not sure how long that lasts though.

You're always bound by gravity even when not on a planet and always in a constant state of motion. You got the planet's gravity, the star's gravity, and the galaxy's gravity. Even outside the galaxy it's pulling you in. You will never be free from gravity.

Makes me wonder: Is it better or worse for your back to sleep in zero Gs?
@2718aj
@2718aj 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah you won't have any back pain it would actually fix them. It lows allows your spine vertebrae to relax and release its tension. When you stand up all your vertebrae get squished together from your weight and holding your head/body up. Being in zero gravity it allows your spine to stretch and not carry tension letting each vertebrae have sufficient room.
@ConvictJ96
@ConvictJ96 3 жыл бұрын
Chris Hadfield spoke on this in a wired video, It's not bad for your back however some people in space get tension which can produce back pain.
