The real magic of this track is that they managed to completely change the style and feel of the original. There's hundreds of covers out there... most just re-doing the original. However once in a while, you get a band who can completely change a song and adapt it to their own style. (A Perfect Circle did it with Imagine) and Karnivool have done it with this one. If you haven't already, make sure you also check out their cover of "The only way" by Gotye.

I believe that Mark needs to do more singing, he nailed this one. P.S. Far better than the original, which is great by the way.

amazing version, and mark has a pretty awesome voice as well. he and Kenny should share the vocals around. f...n awesome
@GhANeC8 жыл бұрын
+nicole hocking mark sings all the time, and his back vocals complete the songs mastefully. he just didnt start the band, or compose lyrics, or conceptualizes the vocal melodies like kenny does
@ashcook12314 жыл бұрын
I asked them loads of questions and they laughed about this but were adamant that Ian did not provide any vocals on this track. They toured the UK and I am president of the University of the West of England Live Music Society and interviewed them for our online magazine. :-)

Man Mark Hosking has a wonderful rock voice. He sounds brilliant in the verses. And when Ian Kenney sings the backing bit in the second chorus, it just adds a new level to the song. One of the best covers I have heard, right up there with RHCP's Higher Ground and Tool's 21st Century Schizoid Man.

Being British I vaguely remember the original, I was 5 I think. The horror.....the horror TBF the originals not that bad but not really something I would normally listen to. I can only really say that covering it really was a stroke of genius by Karnivool. It shows a depth in style, versatility, creativity and influences that a lot of bands these days don't have.

better with Ian singing? I don't think so, for several reasons. It really matches Mark's voice, he's got a completely different vocal style to Ian - a bit more edgy, less clean, and he can push it a bit more. Also, it give us Vooligans an appreciation for the talent of the man, who's not only an awesome guitarist, but more than good enough to front his own band as a vocalist if he wished to.

I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles' flights I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry Don't blame this sleeping satellite Did we fly to the moon too soon? Did we squander the chance? In the rush of the race The reason we chase is lost in romance And still we try To justify the waste For a taste of man's greatest adventure I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles' flights I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry Don't blame this sleeping satellite Have we got what it takes to advance? Have we peaked too soon? If the world is so great Then why does it scream under a blue moon? We wonder why If the earth's sacrificed For the price of its greatest treasure I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles' flights I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry Don't blame this sleeping satellite And when we shoot for the stars What a giant step Have we got what it takes To carry the weight of this concept? Or pass it by Like a shot in the dark Miss the mark with a sense of adventure I blame you sleeping satellite I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles' flights I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry Don't blame this sleeping satellite Don't blame this sleeping satellite

I for one think Karnivool have to play this song live. I would, for use of a better phrase "lose my shit" if they pulled this one live. Such an amazing cover that only they (albeit Hoss and Goddard) could pull off.

An album like DEA is too complex for most people to appreciate. It attracts certain people who take their music pretty seriously. There's even a lot of metal fans who find Meshuggah too difficult to listen to...That's why they're kind of a 'cult' band.... lots of people haven't even heard of them... but the ones who like them worship them.

@Pieman09thepivotguy He didn't say it was Ian, he said it was because of the type of instrumentation he recognized the band. To me it doesn't sound like you're that big of a fan if you dont got their first album. It's like claiming you're the biggest metallica fan and never heard "Enter Sandman" or "Master of Puppets" and say, "errr this does'nt sound like a song Metallica would do"
@andiecrowe1013 жыл бұрын
This is totally Karnivool. Just listen to the harmonies at the end. Its just not Ian singing, Its Mark. Karnivool covered this song when Ian went to go record for Birds ot tokyo. The facts are all there. Check it out for yourself.

Nope. They can't, indeed. Whether in the studio or on stage, they manage to nail amazing songs. 'Themata' is a flawless piece of art, just like Meshuggah's 'D.E.A.' was, back in 1995. The thing I don't get is WHY both did not immediately burst into the music scene ? I ask, why ?
