That's why they should have cameras in the cockpit ,so the passengers know the pilots are awake up there.

I find it curious that nobody from cabin crew contacted the cockpit when they were overdue.

It was a bit shitty to first overwork them and then suspend them when they fell asleep. This said, couldn't someone from the crew enter the cockpit ? Or is it impossible after 9/11 ? They must have noticed something was off..

It may be partially Ethiopian airlines' fault. They are making pilots work long past the allowed work time with not enough rest periods.
