Awesome video! Your young trees really do need the drip irrigation. Obviously, my small potted seedlings don't need that, because the soil takes forever to dry out, even though I use the AC regularly. What they need is decomposed granite. I'm really starting to see the effects of pruning. One of my healthier young seedlings got brown leaves, but started to send out 2 shoots. Finally, an avocado tree putting out 2 branches, not one. Almost every time I prune, they always send out 1 shoot, but a hard prune really makes the difference. I'll prune it again when the shoots' first set of leaves mature, so I can get secondary branches and harden of the 2 main leaders and even get the lower third bud to take off. It's doing great in that pot, well bucket I should say, but something is sus about that soil. And whatever I prune off, I put it in water. Nothing is wasted, unless there aren't any buds on the cuttings. And some of the cuttings have started to send out shoots, but I don't see any roots. But I have terrible news for my oldest and most beloved avocado tree. I've had a great time growing the tree for nearly 3 years. But it seems that the tree might not pull through.

For a very remote area, you could use rectangular plastic container-style tubs. Even the modest-sized ones hold 20-30 gallons.

Great video on remote watering, thank you! ,😀🌱🐢 Do you have any tips on preventing deer from eating the tips of your young tree branches?
@SleepyLizard7 ай бұрын
no, it's a huge problem. they can get through fences. the best thing is to wait and plant the tree as big as possible so the few branches that get nibbled don't matter. Depending on your local hunting laws you can give them lead poising I suppose 🤣

Man, the boat filled with water is genius , lol 4:00 Drip agriculture is sanity, it should be practiced far more , especially where ground water has been depleted

its actually not good for avocados...many crops need a big drink then a period to dry out. I'm only doing this as a last ditch effort to save them till rainy season. if you used drip irrigation for avocado they'd get root rot and the grove would die.

I drilled a little hole on the side, bottom of the bucket. Then filled it with water and let the water run out the hole. No tubing. Less control.

Hello, how much water do smaller trees need? Does a recently planted tree need 5 gallons a day? That seems like a lot, but I don't know much about this. The guides online say 1 inch or so, but what the heck is 1 inch when it comes to how much to water with a hose or this bucket system?

when the soil is dry give it water. When it's wet don't water

Great idea. Necessity is the mother of invention😁👍. Tom my wife is Filipina and I want to get her a Carabao mango tree. Any idea where to find one grafted to dwarf root stock? We live up along the gulf coast in zone 9a so even being dwarf I'll have to keep it pruned and in a green house a couple months out of the year. Thanks for any help ❤️😁👍 !!!

I never heard of that one. Maybe Tropical Acres would know about it???

@@SleepyLizard the Mexican and Manila Mango came from the Philippines and the original is called the Carabao mango but they are all essentially the same👍

@@SleepyLizard thanks brother. I have found them but they are all grafted onto regular root stock. Everglades farm has them but that tree gets to between 60-100' feet tall in the Philippines but I need one grafted onto dwarf root stock. I tell you if you can pick one up for your collection you will not be sorry. It is possibly the best mango in the world really !!!

Great video, Tom, you never cease to make me laugh. I love your ingenuity, a Jon boat and a five gallon bucket...awesome stuff. We have toted around a 50 gallon barrel and a small dc pump hose placed on the back our golf cart to water in our new fruit trees on our property until they were established. I have a question, how do you protect your small avocado trees from sunburn?
