This shit was supposed to be a one trick pony. It was supposed to get old after Treats. That album was supposed to take this sound, these ideas, as far as it could go. The two of them were supposed to have a messy falling out, an interpersonal conflict; he was supposed to try to replace her with some whatever girl off of some singing competition reality show, or whatever, while she transitioned into being a low-rent Katy Perry. Ya know? And it didn't happen. Here they are, a decade later, making music that's as vital as ever and stabbing me in my soul in entirely new and creative, inventive ways. Fuck my life, and thank fucking god, because I'll take every single bit of it I can, and thank you very much. Few are the albums that can affect me this hard at this point in my life, because I'm past the age where that's easy. I'm at the age where you have to REALLY earn it. And they do--they have--every single damn time. I'm not naive enough to think they can keep it up forever. But they weren't even supposed to be able to keep it up this long! So . . .

I love sleigh bell’s ability to combine genres in fresh, original ways. I don’t get why this band isn’t more popular. I’m a punk/metal/hardcore kid at heart but I also love 60s wall of sound girl groups so this is right up my alley.

Derek explains the video a bit in a reddit AMA: Derek: I'll try to keep this short. Basically Locust Laced is about fentanyl, which is killing a lot of people. It's horrible. Addiction is madness/insanity. We wanted the video to be a literal representation of that type of insanity, hence Alexis sprinting into a brick wall over and over again while I drink myself to death in front of a live audience. The smiles and "goofy" shit is just the sugar to help the medicine go down.

What's it like to be on a music video shoot? Are they like playing the track over and over through speakers to line it up? What kind of direction did they give you? Looks like you guys are in costume - how did that work? Was there just a big wardrobe and somebody trying to pick the right outfits for everybody? Or were you asked to bring something that fit a certain theme? How involved was the band in the particulars of the music video shoot? Did the musicians hang and out and talk to the extras? How long did it take? How did you get invited to participate? Also, which one are you? People wanna know. Rather, I wanna know haha. It's a pretty cool video for a wicked awesome track and I'm curious how these sorts of things come about.
@VanNguyen-rz3gw3 жыл бұрын
@@SquareNoggin It was pretty fun actually. I got the part when they posted to instagram stories that they were shooting a video and wanted their fans as extras and to just email them. They asked us to come dressed western theme. The band was very involved. There were a lot of takes so it was about 4 hours of shooting, though that was just for when they added us, I believe they had been shooting other parts of the video earlier in the day. They didn't play the track over and over to sync with the video, but it was played over and over just for retakes. After the video was done we did get to hang for a bit, they graciously took pictures with all of us. I am the asian guy in the black and red on the middle right of the bleachers. It was an amazing experience!
