I'd never heard this little gem until, on the way home last evening, the host of the classical music station in my area said, "It's Frederick Delius, and Sleigh Ride..." I came right home and pulled this video up. Thank you so much for creating it, WDR!

The amazing thing to me is that there is one 'dislike'. Obviously someone needs to attend a hearing test. This is early Delius. He was a truly wonderful composer but still little recognised, sadly. Lovely performance, very delicate and cognisant of the composer's style and intent. Thank you for the upload.

I understand how you feel, but unfortunately, some people are tone deaf and there's no drawing blood from a stone. Just be happy that there are others who enjoy sharing this music. Both early Delius and early Debussy are a delight to me.

Perhaps the two dislikes fell off a sleigh somewhere, or are desert-dwelling bullfrogs with no ear for good music. For me this is classic Delius, well worth listening to all the year round.

Zephaniah3verse17 I very much agree with you, and unfortunately encounter this sort of thing in real life as well, as I'm sure you must. For my part, I have no ear for any of the fashionable trends of today, whether in serious, light, or popular music.

Maui Pops Orchestra just performed this piece at our Holiday Pops concert this afternoon. The audience really enjoyed it - as did the orchestra members. Definitely warrants more performances!!

First heard this delightful piece from a VERY unlikely source! In 2010, Glade Air Fresheners featured their winter collection, with this music and charming animation, with cookies coming to life: REINDEER cookies, which then pulled a magical sleigh through the air while two children gasped with wonder. Actually, Delius might have been pleased.

I'd love to do that! Caithness is the nearest I've ever been to the land of the Sami - beautiful Northern Lights, a welcoming peat fire, soup and Scotch pies, but no sledge or snow. Delius sounds good anywhere, mind.
