Second edition
2022 version. Maybe possibly have improved on piccolo. We were in fact brain dead as it had been a very. very. long day but that’s ok. Silly goofy mess ups for the win

Haha my friend switched from flute to piccolo this year and she hates every second of it! She hardly ever plays and she is super self-conscious of how shrill it is compared to the flute and thinks she stands out too much. I feel bad for her but she was the best flute among us so our band teacher volunteered her haha! We play this exact version of Sleigh Ride though, so it's really relatable, even if we don't go as fast(our band sucks 🥲). Hope you had fun! Band has a lot of my favorite school memories!

Piccolo really takes a somewhat different attitude from flute to actually enjoy it. It isn't for everybody. You need enough self-confidence to want to be heard and feel comfortable holding down a part by yourself. Also enough skill to control the tuning and volume on the high notes, which isn't easy and takes a substantial amount practice specifically on piccolo to achieve. The embouchure is tiring if you aren't used to it. Piccolo can be a blast once you have those things, but if you're playing something a bit beyond your skill level, or you aren't comfortable being alone on a part, or with everyone being able to hear you, it can be really scary. I really liked playing piccolo, but I can totally see why a lot of people hate it.

@@rbyers.musics If you keep doing it, you will get better at it. Like dealing with stage fright generally. You've probably noticed that the more you perform, the easier and less scary it gets. Same with playing piccolo. It may also help to remember that you have started a different instrument, and NO ONE is great when they first start out. Your playing was sounding pretty good there, so yeah, it's probably just the confidence. I hope it works out well for you, and gets less intimidating.

Not sure why I clicked on this considering I know exactly what it’s like to play this from a flute/piccolo perspective but I enjoyed it! I’m a senior in college about to start likely my last ever semester of band. We don’t do holiday concerts at my school because we are done for the semester in late November so I haven’t played this in what feels like forever, but I played it all four years of high school and spent many of my young childhood years sitting on the floor in the flute section coloring while my mom (also a flute/piccolo player) practiced this with the band she was in for much of my childhood. That director actually had me “help” him direct this when I was around 6 or 7 at a concert one year. This video brought me back to all of those holiday concerts, so thank you! I hope the actual performance went (or goes) well and that the trumpet player figured out their whinny lol

I’d forgot how fun it is to play in an orchestra, especially seeing as I would up playing the violin parts with the two people I played with back when I was 11. Unfortunately our song was for more drab than yours (we did walking in the air) but at the end we did a big-ass showstopper with all of the choirs singing All I Want for Christmas while we played the accompaniment for them. It all felt very Love Actually 😭😂 honestly though have never played so loudly because there were only 4 violins trying to be heard on par with the brass section ffs 😂 This was so funny - the faces you were making are too relatable

Why can the flute player not hold it near 90 degrees
@rbyers.musics
@rbyers.musics Жыл бұрын
Not supposed to. Not good for your arms, shoulders, or back. It can slow your technique and hinder sound quality. It should be a 90 degree angle for marching band and marching band only for the aesthetic aspect

What grade level are you guys? Also, is that girl in the back in the nice outfit wearing a soda can tab? Those were all the rage back when I was in school, especially in band.
@rbyers.musics

The band has all from freshman to seniors. We play mostly grade 5 and 6 music. The girl with the soda can tab is actually in college. We had made a sleigh ride last year (that is up on my channel as well) so she came back to do this years edition!
