It’s one thing to play that many instruments - lots of band teachers do - but from what I can tell with my headphones on, he plays them ALL pretty well. In honesty though, the piece is originally scored with strings…and I imagine if Declan reads this, he’ll master violin by next week. 😂

@ 100%. Playing 2nd and 3rd parts is really hard. Blending in and being in tune (as well as being able to pick out your own line, which isn’t the melody often) is really challenging and I found them harder than the 1sts

Above all that everyone else has mentioned, the one thing I absolutely adore that you did is actually playing the "Go Big Blue!" section right at the 1:50 mark. Very few people have recorded performances where *everyone* actually read that backing/bassline part correctly, and it's unbelievably refreshing to hear a take that does. Spectacular work here on all parts :3

Honestly, the articulation and rhythmic clarity are amazing -- and sonic clarity as well, how you managed to put that many recordings together without room-noise buildup into a loud hiss is pretty remarkable. This is what I've been wanting to do, but limited to woodwinds - I gave up brass and sold those instruments a long time ago, but the tech hurdles still elude me a bit.
@VGMBassoon4 күн бұрын
I have experienced the room noise problem before haha: I made sure to denoise my recordings before I threw them into my final mix, thankfully I didn’t have the hiss problem. The intonation I found the hardest! Playing in tune with myself was really hard and I didn’t want to rely on autotune or pitch correction like other people who did this definately did. It just sounds better without being altered that way.

Impressive! I assumed you were a band teacher but then I read your bio. 😂 I was a music major (Indiana Univ) but I could certainly only play five instruments well enough to tackle Sleigh Ride. (My main instrument was piano, which helps not at all.) Next up: add the strings from the original scoring. 😂😂

This is especially impressive because of the lack of mistakes. In music, any tiny small mistake is very noticeable, so good job not having those
@VGMBassoon4 күн бұрын
Trust me I had to throw out so many recordings to due simple or dumb mistakes. I also had to stay in tune with myself because in my opinion, using auto tune or pitch correction on instrumental recordings can make it sound robotic or fake. A lot of other videos similar to this playing sleigh ride or other pieces as a one person band are so blatantly auto tuned and pitch corrected that it was difficult for me to listen to. Simply playing in tune (is not easy of course) makes editing easier and just makes you sound better because you don’t rely on pitch correction. Thanks for listening!
@Davis.smith.weightlifting4 күн бұрын
I do projects like this several times a year, and I can confirm how insanely hard this is. I usually have to splice parts when I record in garage band. If the videos are what the recording is from, and aren’t essentially a voiceover for recordings that are spliced in garage band or pro tools, that is WILD.
@VGMBassoon4 күн бұрын
@@Davis.smith.weightlifting they are for the most part. I played a couple wrong notes in some of the instruments I struggle with (low brass) but I ended up fixing them with a re-record of just that section. The less editing I have to do, the better the end product is so I just ended up doing re-records if I made a mistake that was dumb.
