Live jam with 5 Volcas and a bunch of effects! This was the first time we did a jam with the Analog Heat, so we used it (the high pass filter) a lot, haha. Let us know what you think!
The original recording contained a long warming-up period which wasn't that interesting, so we decided to cut that and skip to the good part. If you want to hear some clips of what was cut, follow us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter! Links at the bottom.
Korg Volca Sample + Zoom MS-70CDR
Korg Volca Bass + Strymon Timeline
Korg Volca Drum
Korg Volca FM + Chase Bliss Audio Thermae + Source Audio Ventris
Korg Volca Keys + GFI System Specular Reverb V2
Controllers: Arturia Beatstep Pro & Arturia Keystep
MIDI: Miditech MIDI Thru/Filter + Retrokits RK-004
Compressor: FMR Audio RNC 1773 + Zoom MS-50G
Master bus effect: Elektron Analog Heat
Mixer: Behringer XENYX UFX1204
Power: Strymon Zuma
Video recorded with iPhone 7. Audio recorded with UFX1204 in "standalone" mode, recording directly to USB HDD.
If you have questions about how everything (Volcas, effects, controllers) is connected (power, audio, MIDI), check out this video: • Our Volca Setup: How I...
Here's a video explaining how we use the RNC compressor: • Really Nice Compressor...

Fantastic jam, thanks for sharing! Now, I have the same mixer as you and I believe the power supply has died. If you notice the recorder behaving erratically on power-on you might encounter the same issue at some point - I mention that in case you're thinking of using it live. Anyway, while it was working, I was concerned about the mixer not properly mounting and dismounting the HDD I used for recording, so I had a look for a solid state alternative. After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that a Sandisk Extreme USB stick (Extreme CZ80) will do the trick at 24 bits no problem.

Wowowow !! This is sooooo great !! I want the Analogue Heat now hahaha x) I have several question , your setup mesmerize me EACH time I have the same behringer mixer , and a zoom ms 70 cdr , how do you use it ? Like a send ? A return effect ? How do you do the trick ? It’s the same question about the RNC 1773 : how do you do it with all the stuff ? I really dig to get one to get basic sidechain with all of my synths too , it’s an insert ? An aux ? I don’t get it hahaha I could say the same for the Analog Heat too x) You have connected it directly from the Main out ? If yes , how do you record it back ? Sorry for all those questions , but YOU GUYS have helped me out to get my dawless setup , and works like a charm so far I really want to get more and more dawless , but those kind of setup are at the same time a dream to have , but a nightmare to understand too x) Thx in advance !
@SlenterendeBeer
@SlenterendeBeer 4 жыл бұрын
Eridon : Thanks for the kind words!! We don’t use the mixer FX send/return. Instead, every Volca is connected to a pedal first, which is then connected to the mixer. We use the MS-70CDR with the Volca Sample in this jam. If you want to know how we included the FMR RNC, check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3nVZn-BdrecpbM . It boils down to the following: we use the mixer’s “ALT3-4” sub group to send the sound from the Volcas to the compressor. That signal then goes to the Analog Heat, and then the signal is returned to the mixer. This way we can record both the individual tracks, and the compressor + “Heated” sound. Let me know if you have more questions. :)

Great vid!! Really digging the vibe :). Just curious, why’d you hook up the bass to strymon timeline? Thanks!
@SlenterendeBeer
@SlenterendeBeer 4 жыл бұрын
Foreign Familiar : Thank you!! In this jam we didn’t use the Timeline as a delay, but as a chorus effect. We used the tape delay setting, with delay time and repeats (feedback) set to their minimum values, and turned up the modulation. This results in a nice stereo chorus effect.
@ForeignFamiliar
@ForeignFamiliar 4 жыл бұрын
Slenterende Beer ooh nice i’ve heard this commonly done within ableton delay but never via pedal, that’s dope! Is this a better approach to stereo bass than a chorus/modulation?
@SlenterendeBeer
@SlenterendeBeer 4 жыл бұрын
Foreign Familiar : No, it’s not better, but it’s more versatile, because the Timeline can do sick delay sounds as well. :)

@SlenterendeBeer
@SlenterendeBeer 4 жыл бұрын
deepermadness : This is the raw mix, but we do use a compressor (FMR RNC) and the Analog Heat for some extra drive. To eliminate noise / static / hiss, make sure you don’t have a ground loop issue. I’ve linked 2 instructional videos in the description which provide some more info.
