You have answered a lifelong question! My mom made the pecan cookies all of my life, I’m 61 and have 3 older sisters. My mom’s cookbook (hand written by her) only called them “My Favorite Cookies”, so that is all we ever knew them as. We never asked where she got the recipe came from. My mom was an amazing cook and loved making a HUGE spread of every sweet thing imaginable for Christmas. She cooked daily between Thanksgiving and Christmas getting ready for our very large extended family Christmas dinner. It was nothing to have 30+ attend. When Moma passed away the very regretful thing happened, her cookbooks came up missing, never to be seen again. We sisters have tried to piece together a cookbook from recipes shared with family and friends and have many and we are thankful to have them. We asked if anyone had the recipe for “My Favorite Cookies” but no one did and we couldn’t find one called that anywhere. I have pretty much recreated this recipe from memory after years of making them with Moma , and now I have the story of where they came from. I apologize for being long winded but I love to share my Moma with anyone who will sit still long enough to hear (or read). Thank you for the answers!

I’ve made basic sugar cookie logs, oatmeal logs, choc chip and cocoa (chocolate) sugar cookies. I make several flavors at a time and freeze. Handy when you just need a few cookies or a whole batch.

Those look delicious! A suggestion for the orange 🍊 cookies 🍪 is to make orange sugar. Add orange peel to a jar of sugar (I usually use the peel of a large orange to a pint jar (2 cups) of sugar. Just add enough so that you can smell it. Shake well and let sit for a couple of weeks, shaking it every couple of days. Add more peel if needed. Use it to roll the cookies in. If you make a large batch, you can use it in pound cake and sugar cookie recipes for extra flavor. It's also good in tea. You can also make your own orange extract. The same way you make vanilla extract,* except use orange peel (remove as much of the pith as possible) instead of vanilla beans. Or use both! Let sit for several months. The longer, the better. *For those who don't know how to make vanilla extract, you just add 8-10 vanilla beans ( some use less, some use more) to a quart jar. Fill with vodka ... the cheap kind works fine ... and put lid on. Let sit for several months. I don't strain mine, but some people do. And start a new jar using the discarded vanilla beans. I just keep topping my jar off as needed . It will last quite a while. You can also make vanilla sugar the same way as the orange sugar above.

@plsjjrg3285 It really is. You can also use lemon peel . Lemon and lime salt can be made the same way. Get as much use out of your food as possible.

Sam’s Club has a large bag of chopped black walnuts (what a hard-to-find nut!) so I think I will sub those for the pecans. Yum! And, look at your 70s vintage Tupperware measuring cups! Lucky you!

Thank you for these, our Mom always made Cherry Nut Cookies and they were called Ice box cookies. I myself am making them for the families this yr and giving out the rolls so everyone can bake their own. They freeze amazingly and are so good to eat yr round. I cannot wait to try your recipes. Merry Christmas to you and yours from Canada.

A little more work, but I then dip my pecan cookies in melted chocolate half way. The orange ones sound decadent and dipped in chocolate would take them over the top! I'm encouraged to make these recipes just to have dough in the fridge or freezer ready on hand. Thanks!

Just something to keep in mind when using ghee in baking, the water has been removed from the butter, (I believe it’s something like one tablespoon per cup) so this may account partially as to why your baking is a little more dry than expected, besides being in Arizona. Also, this demo was short almost one cup of flour I think I read as someone else pointed out which is why it turned out so unexpectedly moist this go round? Happy holidays my friend! Xo

Pam, I am curious as to where you got the containers that you used for your granulated sugar . I would love to obtain similar containers for volume storage with the flat lids to stack in my pantry for immediate or near term use of products.
