A great Kiwi classic from the 80's. New Zealands second national anthem.

@@beausims5605Don't compare Australia to New Zealand. New Zealanders are more United than Aussies mate. Y'all are all over the place. Australia is New Zealand 30 to 40 years ago. New Zealand has made peace with family violence since ONCE WERE WARRIORS. Aussie news everyday. Woman being beaten, kidnapped, raped etc. It's a daily occurrence in Australia. N.Z far from that now. Mums and families first.

@@furiousstylez263yeah I agree as a Kiwi living Australia I prefer to work with my fellow Kiwis we always get the job done unlike most Aussies want the job done their way which is the wrong way then get hysterical over stupid nonsense which I’m sick of but there’s some good ones which I don’t mind them.

Im a kiwi living in Aus, been here since about 10. I have to say this song makes me miss New Zealand. I see people on here arguing about Australia and New Zealand. We all live in the two best countries in the world. Why do you think so many people come to these two great countries? Gonna be a dual citizen soon, so I can call both countries my home for life. Don't forget the ANZAC's Australians and Kiwi's brothers in arms. We shouldn't be putting each other down :)

NZ is better. Came to Oz when I was 17, born in Rotorua, now I'm 42 but if anyone wants to know, NZ is way better because it rains there. And the Govt there are not such a bunch of mongerels, and your neighbours actually talk to you. Dad used to say that NZ was the lifeboat of the world and after 25 years in Oz, I reckon he was probably right! Probably started some arguments here but oh well! There we go!

But to be fair, Australia made me. It made me a tough old bitch! Ha! I guess I'd probably miss the baking heat if I went back to NZ. So maybe there is something good about there being no rain for five months of the year!

I was involved in RIMPAC 2000. An Australian soldier deployed to Hawaii. I remember one of our guys put on _Down Under_ in a big club at Schofield Barracks. He did it several times until we threatened to shoot him. When we got home a detachment of Americans came over to join us. Fun times for great allies during peacetime...smashed on Budweiser, swapping kit and generally falling down drunk whilst singing _Star Spangled Banner_ and _Waltzing Matilda_

When I was a freshie at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in '87, a pop station DJ played this record (he'd bought it on a trip to Auckland) for 8 hours straight as a stunt. Someone tattled and CBS Records sued the station - it wasn't licenced for airplay or sale outside NZ & Australia. Sad, because I think this definitely would've been a hit everywhere. It's insanely catchy. The DJ ended up getting sacked. I never forgot this song and thought I'd never hear it again. Thanks, KiwiGhost!

There was a time when a young boy reading the comics or 'funnies' in the newspapers would enjoy his favourite comic in his first language. For me, it was English language. Australian, Nth American, Kiwi, English... nationality didn't matter... what I enjoyed was what I liked! Ginger Meggs (Aussie)and Garfield (US) were special favourities but my favourite and first read was always Footrot Flats from New Zealand. In recognition of its populatory across Australia and New Zealand, the comic strip was belatedly made into an animated movie. I almost shoved my dad into the cinema! All these years later, that singular experience remains in my eyes, ears and soul. To FF fans... "Dog + Jess = Forever!"

Super nostalgia trip... my sister had this on a 45 single and I would constantly play it to death until it was no longer playable lol. Love this song so much, especially the synthesised "Japanese flute" (I used to think it was a _real_ flute but it still sounds so good).

Steve Steven She meant it's a classic and not many of our generation have good taste, were the good ones not them fucked up dubsteppers who don't know who the Rolling Stones are. I have witnessed people wearing band shirts, I then ask how long they have known said band, in which they reply "What Band?" I tell them the logo on their shirt is from a band, they reply with a dumb look on their face "Isn't it the T-shirt brand?"... This is the part I tell them to get fucked and I walk off.

It is after all, some of the best music to come out of New Zealand. I know we Aussies "claim" a lot of Kiwis when they make it big, but New Zealanders have bands with their own sound distinct from Aussie bands. Hard to explain, but there's a distinctly different style.
