A tip is a present from the customer to the worker. It's not mandatory in any way, shape or form. A customer could not be responsible for your salary. You and the company you represent are responsible for your salary
@J7Handle9 ай бұрын
Tipping culture worked when it was essentially the customers paying the waitstaff or drivers for a service provided. But it only works when there's a relationship between the customer and the waitstaff or drivers. If they only deal with eachother one time, then if the customer tips before the provided service, the worker has no incentive to provide a good service, because there's no way for the one time customer to provide a review or feedback, and if the customer tips after the service, the customer has no incentive to tip the worker for a good job. That means tipping culture is fine for small town restaurants where virtually every customer is a regular, and employees are retained for a relatively long time, and it works terribly for city restaurants because nobody is a regular, and employees come and go frequently. What this basically means is that states with normal minimum wage for restaurant workers are dominated by the major urban centers to the detriment of the small towns, while states with lower minimum wage for restaurant workers are dominated by the small towns to the detriment of the major urban centers.

The customers sometimes receive products that are unsatisfactory. Unfortunately, sometimes more often than not, the customers complain to the driver instead of the producer to said product. If a company wants to automatically take a "Tip", it shouldn't be called a "Tip" it should be called "Commission." or, they put a little thing there that says "Hey, we pay our employee's well, here's what we added to give your server a good wage." when you purchase something at a Furniture store or at a Car Lot, a portion of your purchase goes to the worker who sold the item. Something similar could be applied to the Service Industry and I think that would be fine. The problem in the US is that, unlike in other countries, if your allowed to accept tips your Hourly Pay can be as low as 2.50 an hour, bare in mind that Minimum Wage is 7.50 and to avoid the Poverty Line you have to make about 15 An hour. If a waitress(Because you don't get tips as a Waiter btw.), works 8 Hour's, she get's paid 20 Dollar's for that day if she accepted a tip. So, she needs at minimum 5 Dollar's every hour to get 7.50 an hour. And at least 13 to be above the poverty line, depending on the place, that means she needs all 8 of her customer's to tip her atleast 13 to keep her alive. What makes this worse is that, some places don't give the Tip's to the Waitress. Instead, they pool it and split evenly. So if Waitress 1 got a really good tip that day and made like 10x's more than everyone else, she basically covered everyone's tips that day on her own or, everyone makes out with less than they should have. My rule is I tip 10% for acceptable service, 15% for above average and 20% for exceptional. And I only tip if I know that the waitress or waiter who served me, isn't getting paid a proper hourly wage as a result of their tips. I stopped tipping uber though, turns out, they add the tip to the cost already for you now. So, i no longer tip for uber rides. An uber driver told me that on his end, my ride was 3 dollar's plus 5 dollar's for a tip. On my end, I was charged 8.50 off rip, so, I already tipped him as far as he's concerned. Tipping Culture isn't bad, it arose out of a necessity facilitated by corporate greed and a lack of understanding of the industry.

And many of the restaurants that has the recent type of those portable machine can't do basic math and includes tax in the tip so a 15% tip is not really 15%, but 18% instead and they get mad when you correct it 15% by manually typing it even if 15% is a lot. And some people say that tipping is a reward and that's what makes the employees strive for better service, but that's just plain dumb. Most countries don't have tipping culture because proper service is a fundamental part of work involving customer service. It is and should be a normal thing. I work minimum wage, and I get tips. I never demand tips and when i am given a tip I'm very grateful . I don't eat out because I hate tipping culture. last few times I was forced to give a 20 dollar tip on an order of 40, Or else they would call the police on me. I rather cook at home then to pay your ridiculous tips. I hate tipping.

I'm from Canada the tripping culture here be toxic in places. get this the workers get paid well like 15$+ per hour and still expecting more money. I have had people get downright nasty when i dont tip. i just tell then work factory it pays alot more then min wage. here in Canada factory jobs pay between 15 - 26 its just people refusing to do better work for better pay.. i worked factory for a few years myself its not that bad

Tipping culture I think only exists in America. I live in South Africa, I tip my waiter/waitress all the time, but they don't rely on it as an income. Tipping culture is a solution to a problem that should not exist to begin with.

for people who don't understand how using horses instead of bikes is better: in 3rd world countries cars and bikes are so very expensive, only the rich can afford easily, for normal people it would be required a loan or a very long term plan to pay for it, because most(if not all) of the vehicles/vehicle parts in the country need to be imported on the other hand, horses only really need grass and water to thrive, so in a country with less cities and urban centers, the price to buy or rent horses is lower because of how easy it is to maintain the reason you think it would be expensive is because in 1st world countries like the US or UK horses are considered an attraction more than a way of travel, you would only really see a horse if you went to a ranch and would only ride one if you paid something in the hundreds of dollars

It's illegal to take a tip without the consent of the tipper. You are to be given the receipt, which you write how much tip you want to put, then sign the receipt. If you don't write an amount and they take a tip out, that's fraudulent tipping, which I'm positive that any kind of fraud is a federal offense. In my experience in food service, less than 10 percent of customers tip, no matter how well you did in servicing the customer. I enjoy competitive tipping, though, because, ultimately, it ends in better customer service, and it feels much more gratifying when I am tipped.

I mean, tipping culture in the US is a little odd. Like I always give 5 bucks on an order under $40. Anymore and it's 10. But I make pretty good hourly, and i appreciate getting a free $200-300 extra without having to do any work.

Workers should work like there is no such thing as tip. If not then don't work.

Yeah tipping is really odd for me as an Aussie. Any place I've worked it's against policy to accept money from customers... I think it's essentially illegal to accept it though I'm not 100% on that

After working in the food industry I can say that companies are the only bad ones here because they make excuses for tipping customers so as not to pay more when the cost of the product would be enough for the company to make a profit and the worker to have a good salary, it's corporate greed or bosses' greed.

The wages are the problem. Tipping is a problem as it now makes people that wants to degrade the costamers and have problems.

Tipping becomes even worse when you realize the reason is so companies don’t have to pay as much taxes, lowering salaries for employees while also lining their pockets. They are literally saying “no let the customer feed you, because we don’t want to have to pay to have you employed”

Tipping culture is worse here now in Canada. All food places ask for a tip now when ordering at the restaurant/fast food place even though you're there in person ordering. I really don't know who I'm tipping that point. 😐

I'll tip a bit but I refuse to tip like they ask. No waitress service is worth the amount of money they receive in tips. A person I know made more money working part time in a fucking dennies by multiple times than her main job that is 100x harder. At 10% a waitress only needs to serve like 2 people an hour to make a livable wage in most places and in cheaper places they can serve like 50 people an hr. Or get this people tip when they get a fucking hair cut. Like how does a 3 minute haircut warrant a 20$ tip? Like I'll still tip a bit but I don't accept the entitlement that these losers have. Then these same faggots will get mad at the amazon driver for tossing the package like in this video and their genuis response is to throw the package again. If they were worried about it breaking then why would they toss it again and in reality the package is 100% fine and if you've worked in a warehouse before if that broke the package then nothing you order would ever make it to you in one piece.

Albertan Tim Hortons worker here, at least where I work, we aren't allowed to accept tips, and none of the other restaurants (fast food or otherwise) in my area have asked for a tip at all, not sure where you live, but I haven't noticed it here at least
