Actually, the 'kris' is more often associated with Indonesia, although it has been a weapon across the entire Malay Archipelago (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, southern Thailand and southern Philippines)

My FullThompson is the Hold Out in CTS-XHP coming in at 13.1", I smile every time I look at it! Cold Steel did an awesome job on that Kris blade, it's beautiful. When it comes time to sharpen it I would like to see a video on that.

Yeah. I do that too sometimes, but I prefer the sanding method to keep the retention tight on these big ones.

Just bought a XL Voyager Vaquero off Blade HQ so its not fake and the grind was all wonky, looked like a flea market knife grind. I reprofiled it myself by hand with stones. took many hours but now its even better then it would of been if it was ground even. Disapointing though. I would of sent it back but the lock and centering was perfect so i just fixed it myself. For a $70 knife i was still really bummed, I dont have faith in Cold Steel to order this Kris. I dont feel like spending hours on end reprofiling again. I order a full seration XL Vaquero though.

I agree on Cold Steel making ridiculous large knives but doing them well. I don't think they're the only ones doing that but they're certainly the most prevalent. I don't know if I like the Kris as much as the standard Voyager though. The blade shape is not exactly as useful for what I tend to use knives for(box cutting, opening food packages/simple food prep, wood working, etc) and the price is higher by a good margin($70 vs $110). I'd probably recommend the xl clip point, vaquero, or tanto variants to the average person over this unless the real draw for them was the blade shape which if it is you're still getting a solid knife just not as much of a good deal imo.

It's actually pretty easy if use the Jewelstik attachment. However it only goes to 1200 diamond so you won't be getting the mirror polish.

Yeah, you could use the jewelstik, and tape strips of higher grit sandpaper to get a higher polish, but I'd wager the false edge on the reverse edge would give the clamp a hard time. You'd probably have to clamp the central ridge and be limited to a less acute profile.

Damn is that thing silly. I'm half Filipino and desperately wanted a kris when I was a kid. Then I grew up and realized the blade shape offers almost zero utility to those of us who live in the modern world. Not knocking it but I don't understand the subset of collectors who purchase knives they'll never actually use.
