“You gotta be able to set up a guitar. If you expect it to come out of a cardboard box and be super playable...” so true. Everything you said in this review made perfect sense, and you talked about all the right stuff. Talking about the setup and the feel is important, because how it feels doesn’t come across in an audio clip. When you played, you didn’t layer on a bunch of gain. You let us hear the guitar. I can’t say enough good things about this review. Thank you.

I Own a Xaviere XV-500, have had it for 7 years. I also own a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, PRS MIra, Fender Strat, Washburn KC-90, and several others..... The Xaviere is just flat out a killer guitar! Not quite on par with some of my others...... but not far off! And I could buy ten of them for what I paid for my Gibby! On top of that, the guys at Guitar Fetish are awesome! Had a small blem on my fretboard, and although I bought it as a second, I called and told them I wasn't sure I wanted to keep it. They immediately offered to replace it or to give me an additional credit to my card. They issued me a $40 credit, and I have kept the guitar and play it regularly at gigs! I always get compliments about my sound, and all my guitarist friends love playing it when I let them! BUY ONE.... HAVE NO FEAR!

The vintage cream SL-51 Tele with a maple fingerboard was my choice once back in stock (they sell out fast!) and is about as simple and basic as you can get. These are really great guitars for the money however, I would say that any potential buyer should have at least some basic set-up skills and tools to dial in your preferences according to your playing style. The first thing I did on the Tele style was to change it to a top loader as the bridge will support either top load or through the body string routing and a fret polish. What-A-Deal!... I couldn't be happier!! ~

I loved this review! This was the review that had me take a chance on these guitars. I own an SL57 and a SL51. I play outdoor shows on the ocean and the salt air will destroy expensive guitars. I had a problem with the SL57 with the nut, but they had me send it back and I received my replacement in two days. I play shows with these guitars and have had very good success with these guitars live. I also thought of changing pickups/neck replacement , but all I have done is change out tuners with locking tuners for quick string changes as ocean air destroys strings as well. Great review and these are wonderful guitars for the cost!

I think Slick and Xaviere may be the best values in the guitar industry right now. The hardware/pickups and uses of wood from the factory are incredible for the money. I'm relatively new to playing and researching but for that price, I don't think any of the major brands' offerings really have the tone to match these. Just picked up a used Xaviere XV-500 with a sweet Ocean blue flamed maple top with the Crunchy Pat pickups and it's just a pleasure to look at and to learn on.

Just found this review - awesome. I am with you on your preferences 100% on every count. I'm also a MIM Strat guy, but appreciably modded. I once tried an Xaviere guitar and sent it back the same day - was a piece of cheaply slapped together junk. But this axe looks great and the tones you were getting were rich and smooth. Some tasty chops, there. Your hands bring the best of this machine out beautifully. Wish I had seen this review three years ago. Might still buy one of these. They are rarely in stock.

@@OfficialUnderDog That's the point. The comment was unnecessary. I like to hear the clean tones, so you can hear what the guitar actually sounds like. The beautiful thing re: bolt-ons is you can try it both ways and see what works better for that exact suit and your exact playing style. For me, it's proven very worth the time to rip a guitar apart and try one thing at a time...that way, I can cement in my head what that one thing does exactly.

I bought mine around the same time you did. I like these pickups quite a bit. The Slick 65 bridge pickup is hot enough to give it a little bit of girth. I didn't like the tuners. A couple of them were loose feeling even when tightening the adjustment screw. I replaced them with black locking tuners, the same you bought. They are called Jinho locking tuners. They are made in Korea and anyone can buy them. GFS says they are made especially for them, but they aren't. Reverend uses the same model. Last year I had a bridge height screw strip out, so I replaced the entire bridge for $35. I got a black one. It works so much better and is smooth on the side of my hand while resting on it. I finally got this guitar where I like it, my only complaint is the weight. It is probably 9 or so pounds. Great bang for the buck. The upgrades didn't cost much, so I am happy.

Great review Etoufee, I picked one up a few months ago because I love the way it looked also. I intended on changing out the wiring harness and maybe the PU's if I needed to but decided to keep it as is. I hadn't played it for a while but your review prompted me to grab it out the case. It still sounds good but I discovered the 5 way has gone bad, no big deal I'd planned on changing it out anyway. All in all it's great guitar for the price (if not better) and out Strats a lot of the Squire and Fenders I've played and owned. Quality control wise, yeah it can be improved on for sure, but I recently went by GC and played a few of the new Elite Strats and Tele's and the neck treatments were horrible, almost ripped my fingers open. Thanks
@MusicNerdStuff7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the bit about GC rings true for me as well. Before I bought this I went to one of the GC's here and they had a new MX Strat that was damaged. There was a big piece of finish missing (probably 1.5 inches) from the upper horn, with cracks all around it. And a fracture in the finish on the back the length of the body. Pretty beat up Obviously had been dropped. It was priced the SAME as all the others. When I asked, they said they'd take $50 off. I laughed and walked out the door.

I see this is a couple of years old but, I have wrestled with buying one Of these off and on for several years and have now decided to do it. I'm checking out reviews again before ordering just to make sure. The price was originally what made me pass them over for more expensive and famous brand without a second thought but, as I started hearing folks talk, I became curious and at this price, if they are at least as good as a squier contemporary, CV, etc, then what would I have to lose? The full body thickness has always been important to me. The thin squirts look and feel cheap to me so that is another plus with Slick. I guess I should have broken down and got one a long time ago. I have decided to fix that tomorrow afternoon when I get home. In addition to tje full body thickness, the brass block and saddles, quality of the tuners is enough of a kicker to justify the purchase. I was mainly concerned about the playability and quality of the neck. Most reviewers I've seen got the guitars with the intention of upgrading electronics and hardware but ended up loving them and left them mostly as is. So...... here I go. Thanks for the thorough review!

Thanks for the video, I was on the edge of getting one of these till I saw your video and decided I can't go wrong for the money. I just got a Slick SL57 in Daphne Blue, $266 shipped. I'm really impressed that this is so good for this price. It had some minor issues that were easy to correct. I used a rounded bar of metal to slightly roll the edges of the neck, this also helped knock down a little bit of fret ends that were a little sharp. Feels smooth now. I used a cheap fret file to even out fret height and remove a very tiny bit of fret buzz in 2 positions. I then used some 2K grit sand paper to polish up the frets. (These tools were part of a $12 luthier set on Amazon). I also had to use a file to smooth down the edges of the heel plate as they were very sharp. The neck was already very flat so I didn't need to adjust that at all. Just put some lemon oil on the rosewood fingerboard and it's wonderful to play. The pickups aren't bad but I wouldn't mind a set of Texas Specials. New set of D'addario 10's, minor intonation adjustment and tuning and it's been a joy to play. Is the guitar perfect? No, but it's amazing for the price. No tuning/intonation issues, feels good to play, and sounds good. I'm really tempted to order one of the SL60's with dual P90's since I've never had P90's before.

Man that’s good to hear like I said I ordered one today how long did it take for you to get yours ?
@Mr.Batsu124 жыл бұрын
@@jayjanuary439 I ordered mine like 6-8 months ago but it only took about a week to get it. I live in South Florida which is where Guitar Fetish is located so maybe I got it a day or two sooner, especially now with the coronavirus making everything wonky. haha I tend to rotate my guitars, taking one out and playing it as my main one for a few weeks and then moving on to another. I just started that with my Slick strat a few days ago and again I was really happy with how well is plays and sounds. I hope you enjoy yours as much.

Mr_ Batsu Oh I also wanted to ask is tremolo floating out of the box or will I have to do it no problem brother either way but I was just wondering LOL this a long three days.
@Mr.Batsu124 жыл бұрын
@@jayjanuary439 Well, actually I don't remember. I hate tremolos but I love strat style guitars so I almost always have mine blocked off. On my Slick guitar I don't recall if I set the trem to rest against the body or not. Right now it has about 1/8 step of pull on it , just enough to go sharp. I don't recall if I did that myself when I got it or if it came that way. LOL Looking through the slot in the back cover I don't see wood that I would usually block off the trem with but I may have loosened the screws so it laid on the body. Either way it's not a Floyd style trem and you wouldn't get much upward pull on it no matter how you set it. Sorry I don't recall how it was when I got it.

Great review! Which color is this one, looks like they do not carry it anymore, the sunburst seems closest, but yours is much better looking!

I have a question...if ya get time to answer. You said about the shim. You give the neck a tilt back. What size shim do you usually use. I'm working on a Strat copy and just did a fret level/crown. Wondered if I should use a shim also? Thanks!☺

I think it would have been good to let people know of the kwikplug wiring and how easy it is to change pick ups if one were wanting to upgrade pick ups. I have been considering buying one of these guitars for awhile. I may even go to a kwikplug system on some of my other guitars if I decide to change out pickups.

Hi Garry! I’m not 100% about how they ship now, but at the time of this review the Slicks were not shipping with KwikPlug pickups. The current description of both the Slick guitars and the individual pickups and pickup sets don’t mention KwikPlug so my guess is they still don’t ship with that option.

Did it need to be set up at all? How was the action on it? Any additional things needed to be done to get a good sound and tone out of it? Or did it come great/good as is?
