Great video, I've owned the anchor buddy for a long time never quite used it. Glad to know how it works now.

Nice job on the video. Hope to see more like this in the future.

Hey mate, if you’re in a busy anchored bay, won’t the craft move with waves like you say….but then crash into others who stay still on their traditional set ups ?
@BlackOutUT9 ай бұрын
This setup only allows the boat to move up and down with the waves. It doesn't allow enough movement to crash into other boats. Also all other boats are drifting with the wind/waves as well. Hope that makes sense.

would reccommend a length of chain on your anchor line before the anchor buddy? or is the anchor buddy strong enough for ocean usage?
@joshmerrill4 жыл бұрын
If you were in say 75 feet of water would you have to undo the anchor buddy stretch rope and just use the normal rope line? Great video, thank you!
@BlackOutUT9 ай бұрын
Sorry I must have missed this question. But for anyone else reading this, I will explain two things here. 1) to answer your question, no, you can run this setup with any length of line. All the anchor buddy is doing is acting as a shock absorber on the bottom of your setup. A better way to think of it is the setup is regular line tied to anchor buddy. Anchor buddy tied to anchor. The setup in this video just also connects the traditional line to the anchor so if your anchor buddy happens to break, you won't lose your anchor.2) This kind of brings up another question. Do you need to carry any other setup besides this? No, you don't NEED to carry anything else besides this setup for any depth. We do carry a Shore Spike for when we're under about 6ft of water. That's just easier to deal with. But in that situation, you're basically jumping in and walking with the line anyway. However, if you are under about 20 to 25ft of line needed for shallow water, and you want to use this setup, you will have to just use the regular line that's running in tandem with the anchor buddy. This is because the anchor buddy will only compress to about 20ft. So if you try to use the anchor buddy in any shallower depth than that, you're basically trying to anchor with too long of a line. For example, if you're needing 15ft of line, and the anchor buddy can't get any "smaller" than 20ft, that isn't going to work. But in that scenario just use the regular line like you would in a traditional anchor/line setup and let the anchor buddy dangle free.

What’s the best way to retrieve this anchor if you feel it’s stuck? Straight over the top I would assume, ever had trouble retrieving?
@BlackOutUT2 жыл бұрын
The standard answer for most anchors is right over the top. You'll obviously have more luck with the main line (not the anchor buddy. I have never gotten one of these stuck. The slide anchor doesn't really have a design that gets stuck very often. But it is definitely possible. If it is really stuck, as an absolute last resort, you can always try tying off the line and using actual power (motor) to slowly pull it up. This can obviously be a dangerous situation. If you happen to try and attempt this, make sure there is no-one in the water, no other boats are nearby, etc. You also want to tie off at the bow to keep the line away from the prop. I really wouldn't recommend this. But I know it can be hard to cut a new high dollar anchor loose.

@@kylesanders7762 I would say it's pretty rare for these to get stuck. Good luck!

when the anchor buddy stretches' does the boat or PWC not move away from your anchor spot? especially when more than one boat is nearby?
@BlackOutUT3 жыл бұрын
If there is too much load on the line, the anchor buddy will definitely stay stretched out. But it would have to be significant. It is pretty strong. Takes quite a bit of constant pressure to keep it from pulling back in.

How did you connect the anchor buddy to the lines? I wish you showed the line nearest to the anchor
@BlackOutUT5 жыл бұрын
ReisTV just using some simple D style shackles. If I remember correctly the anchor buddy comes with one.

@@BlackOutUT Thanks. Also how much rope did you use between the anchor and the slide anchor hook that the anchor buddy is attached to?
@calebhainline83335 жыл бұрын
@@meltdownblitz Just a few feet short of whatever the max length of the anchor buddy bungee is. I want to say it's 40ft? This way the bungee never has full strain put on it.
@BlackOutUT9 ай бұрын
@@meltdownblitz This reply is super late, but that length of traditional line running in tandem with the anchor buddy line should be the same length as the maximum stretch of the anchor buddy, or a few feet less. This way if the anchor buddy is really being stretched to the max, the other traditional line takes over the load. If the anchor buddy is stretched that much, it isn't doing much shock absorption anyway.

How did you tie stopper knot at Danik Hook?

It's just a simple knot tied forward of the Danik Hook.

How much scope do you usually use in Devils cove? Is it mostly mud/sand over there?
@BlackOutUT5 жыл бұрын
Danny Lim the box anchor guys claim you only need 2:1 scope with this anchor. I have found this to be pretty true even in devils cove. Bottom is a mix of rock, sand, and mud. A better tip is to go as deep back into the cove as you can. Back there it is much shallower and calm. I try to get to where the depth is under 40ft. Makes a huge difference.

@@BlackOutUT Thanks for this! I'm a newbie to Lake Travis :) Went in on Saturday, so much fun! I've been debating between Box and Mantus Anchor, but a 2:1 scope makes life a lot easier!

@@dannyab2007 Devil's Cove can be a very difficult spot to anchor. It's deep and can be extremely windy. Anchoring in a deep water crowded cove can be a nightmare. Whenever that much line is out and it's not dead calm, the boat is just going to swing around. It can make for some close calls with other boats. Like I said, the further back in the cove you go, the better time you'll have. The shallower the water, the less line is out, and you'll experience less "swing". Also, if you can tie up to another line of boats that's already "dug in", that may be your best bet. There are several large permanent anchor lines out there that the house boats and some other large boats will use to tie off to. Those permanent lines have thousands of pounds of concrete on the bottom of them. They aren't moving. But if you're solo, get to the under 50 water. Also, if other boats start tying to you, make sure they throw their anchors in too! Funny you mention the Mantus Anchor. I actually have one of those too! At the moment it is my go to anchor. The box anchor has a huge following and is kind of the tried and true, where the Mantus is the new kid on the block. Both are great choices. But right now I'm really liking the Mantus. I often think it's stuck because it feels so secure. It is also much lighter than the box (large). You're call, but if you're in Texas and buying today, I think I might go with the Mantus! For the record, I am not affiliated with either of these companies. Good luck!

@@calebhainline8333 Thanks for again for this and your insight!! Luckily I'm just tying up a 12' jetski (well, 11.5') about 1600lbs with gear and peeps... I'm going to try the Mantus since it's so much lighter, despite the sharp dagger haha.. Luckily I have decent storage. I'm waiting for my depth finder to be installed, as I don't want to carry much more then 100-150' of rope. How much scope have you found yourself needing on average for the mantus? 3:1?
