Good review, I’ve ordered quite a few slides and weights from you guys and used them in Southern California and japan for shark, giant sea bass and ulua.

True. Some fishermen use large steel bolts or nuts and attach wire legs, if needed--eventually rusts away.

We slide live bait and big dead baits down in South Africa. The best sinker to use is the arlesy bomb which has spring steel barbs.these hold the sinker in position until it's pulled hard,either by a fish taking or striking with the rod.The barbs would then spring into a rearward loose position allowing the sinker to easily be pulled around.

This method is from South Africa, not Australia. We land fish from 3kg to 300kg using this system although the equipment we use differ from the ones in the video. We "slide" using braided main lines with braided leaders and also using monofilament with a leader going anything up to 1.2mm when fishing from beaches or rocky points. Reels used are multipliers or grinders. Have a look at Penn Fishing South Africa or zoo look fishing for how it is done here.

Heard you can't use braid with the slider from another video, is this true?
@808Mark
@808Mark 2 жыл бұрын
I've heard of people who still landed fish using braid as their main line but they still used mono, flouro or wire for leader line

Why not use two rods? One rod for the main line that is used to send the bait down. The second rod would be attached to the actual bait. Attach the second line to the slide with a light-weight line that will break or a release as with downrigger rigs. The fish takes the bait and breaks off from the slide. Your main line stays in-place for another round. At the end of the day, the entire main line can be retrieved with the weight. If that's impossible, the lighter line to the weight will break. That's my setup. Hope it saves you money.

there's a similar, although much less complicated technique than the one you thought about, It's called "trolley rig", it all comes down to personal preference, I'd only use the trolley rig when I need a heavier, non-castable setup because of the grade of fish I'm after, i.e 6'6" rod with a 30w and up, that being said, I fish sandy bottoms where a breakaway isn,t required

The way i do em is 18lb squid line to the main and from the eye of the bank sinker I'll tie a 10-15lb test line to a treble with a split shot and I'll just drag it slowly with the rod tip facing the water until it hooks up. I'll get lucky most of the time and get my lead back but not the treble

Those weights can get expensive, I would probably use some type of natural weight like a brick, or something. I wouldn't leave my expensive weights in the surf.

@comeatmebro3229 4 жыл бұрын
@@bigalcervantes5118 we have weights were the wire at the bottom of the weight is strong enough to hold it when sliding but weak enough the wire will break when you hook a fish, but still have a weaker line connected to the sinker since i would rather lose a sinker then a fish
@kenjihojyo717
@kenjihojyo717 4 жыл бұрын
@@bigalcervantes5118 if you're fishing the surf there's no need for a breakaway since there's no structure the weight could get snagged on, hawaiian slide-baiters fish rocky cliffs and bottoms, so their weights can get stuck on a rock. Just use a heavy enough Sputnik with colapsible legs and you're good
