Thank you for this sir, parachutes have been the bane of my tying since I started years ago. This pattern is so much simpler than a traditional upright post.

Excellent! Like Ralph Cutter's EC Caddis and much better explanation on how to do the wing. You're right, when tied correctly, these are virtually bullet proof.

Fantastic!! I stopped tying upright wings on my mayflies years ago, laid them back just as you mentioned. I never thought to tie my parachutes this way. Thanks Kelly!

Great pattern! I tied up a couple to imitate the baetis hatching this time of year and they worked well on some pretty selective trout. I think this style of wing will become a favorite of mine for many of the hatches I fish throughout the year.

Great video Kelly I really like the idea and the look of the fly is much more natural than a standard parachute pattern! I was just wondering what about substituting snow shoe hare for the comparadun hair for increased buoyancy? Thanks

It will work fine just leave a little extra in the butts, you can trim it later but because it is not hollow it wont stand up as easy as deer hair will.

Hey Kelly, do you still use the old style for tying your parachute Gray Drake spinner? In your old dvd Spinners and Cripples you tie in and with the butts to the rear and post the Elk/Deer hair a little and then wind your hackle tightly into the soft hair to tilt it back slightly.

i always thought the post on a parachute was a visual aid and obviously sumthing to wrap your hackle on..ive done mine exactly the same way craven does his when he showed me and ive never had one come apart but i use them mostly in 2 ways..for a spinner there great and can be thinned out on the water if needed the other way is just blind casting riffles and runs during ideal water temps ive had sum amazing days when no fish were rising at all...a typical hairs ear parachute is my go to when blind casting with white poly or calf tail post...it never appears to look like an adult mayfly on the water but the tiltwing version at times looks so much like the naturals its hard to spot it if numerous bugs are on the water..killer fly for sure..green drake time and hendrickson time this pattern for me outfishes anything

Fantastic video I have never seen a dry fly in this style. What hook would you use for this and could you add some Bright colored yarn on top of the wing for an indicator?
@TheSlideinn7 жыл бұрын
You can use your favorite dry fly hook for any tilt wing pattern. Honestly, I think we put way too much emphasis on hooks these days. Just find one with the right length and gap that you are looking for and start tying. Also, you can absolutely put a small piece of hi-viz poly on top of the deer hair to improve visibility.

Thanks for your input I appreciate it. I will just tie with what I have and give it a whirl.

What's the name of the hair stacker that you are using?

Kelly, I disagree with your statement that the wing positioning on standard parachutes patterns is dead wrong. Check with Gary Borgers "Stages of Emergence"on his explanation of why the parachute adams "PA" is the number 1 retail selling fly because of its effectiveness. When a mayfly emergers it's body pops straight up out of the shuck and is usually light colored, hence the white parachute posts of the PA mimics stage 2 of the mayfly emergence cycle.
@michaelmessier57803 жыл бұрын
I suspect the fish cant see the white parachute post and it's not worth the hassle.
