Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the informative videos. My husband & I purchased an older Jayco 5th Wheel as total newbies to camping & he sat & studied KZbin videos at night while rehabbing the camper for 6 months. Eight days before our Maiden Voyage he was killed at work in a construction accident. 😢 I am now trying to learn & do all of this pretty much on my own, but it is a lot & it is hard for just one woman. I will use it myself sometimes, but plan to try to rent it out as a source of income. Your maintenance videos are a huge help to me. Thanks again.

Vicki, very sorry to read about your husband and would like to give you a few words of encouragement from a solo woman traveler - to be. As a single woman, you're worth more than 100 men! Think of the journey and adventure, especially if you DON'T take it on. Join the Escapees RV Club and connect with other single women and men RV'ers and VERY helpful couples. Maybe you'll decide on a different or easier rig for your own skill set and travel plans. Whatever you do, I wish you the best.

@szinski4 жыл бұрын
The Schwintek gears need to be lubricated too (not the track, as you pointed out). You use that same CRC Power Lube with PTFE, you bend the straw nozzle into a U-shape then spray the gears (top and bottom) on each side. Lippert (maker of Schwintek) has a video called "In-Wall Slide-Out System - Mechanical Lubrication" ... search for it here on KZbin.

On the Schwintek Lippert recomends lubing with CRC Power Lube with PTFE in the green can (industrial). I had a slideout that would not fully retract even after resyncing. I lubbed 7 of the 8 bearing stations (one is difficult to get at) and now it slideouts perfectly.

Here is my tip... Learn to do your own RV maintenance and use a good car maintenance management program ( I use Automotive Wolf car care software ) to track and monitor it all. It also tracks all my parts, expenses and creates a detailed vehicle maintenance log. After RV'ing for over 10 years I've saved thousands by doing most of the maintenance myself and there is a lot of it on an RV! A small roof leak can cost you thousands in repairs so I check my roof at least twice a year. Keep on top of the maintenance and you'll save money and be RV'ing for years :)

It would be nice to see you take care of a slide that isn't rack and pinion. My rails actually have teeth but I assume they would also need lubing every so often.
@TakeDeadAim5 жыл бұрын
Also, if a Swintek style...ensure you HOLD the button at LEAST 5 seconds after it's fully out or in. The motors must "synch" again. If you just let go right when it stops moving they could stop at slightly different positions and bind the slide the next time you go to open or close it. Some with your power awning...won't hurt anything at all.
@therealjr17155 жыл бұрын
Yes
@Hundert14 жыл бұрын
Ohh, this is information which is great to know. I'm not certain we must always roll the awning entirely out though. I think maybe we have flexibility in how far out we can roll the awning. Basically, it would be very nice if we didn't have to roll out the entire awning. Same for slides it would be great if everything working fine with slide only partially out. But maybe it just can't be done. But I think Awnings can still be fine with only partially rolled out? Thanks

A nother thing , if you have a auto lever system. Make sure the slide is all the way in before leveling or releveling. If parked on soft ground. Also on my Coachman Chaperal the seal under the slide was to wide and got caught in the rollers tearing the seal. We found this after driving in the rain. We was given a new seal to install. Sounds like a common problem.

I guessing that low voltage on the battery(s) will cause the motors on the slides to draw excessive current overheating the motor internal windings, and causing premature failure?

You said not to step on the slide when it isn't all the way out, what about sitting on the couch or at the table when the slide is all the way in, like when traveling? My Jayco Seneca has the same rack and pinion slide mechanism on the slide that contains the couch and dinette. It also has 4 seat belts at the dinette and 3 on the couch. It would seem that it could tolerate people sitting here while traveling, but I often wonder about it.
@therealjr17155 жыл бұрын
I will say if it is a truck rack and pinion do not....that being said contact Jayco and see what they say. I understand your logic and want to agree with it but we do not deal with Jaycos motorhome division so they may have something different with there setup. I try to talk about the rule and not the exception to the rules in the videos. Have I seen brands that you can, yes but more often see ones that cant

BIG THANK YOU to Keystone RV et al , Got on here a day after "almost" finishing the USED monster Dutchman 5th wheel "flushing" adding anti-freeze and slid the dining room "in" BUT not all the way... it resisted on the far side so I stopped using the rocker switch button immediately. This one side still has 4 inches to move in flush. IF, there is a slightly bent /rack can it still be retracted or replaced somehow? Now I can peruse your handy info as I plan to have this dilemma fixed b4 freeze up. Hoping it is only a sandal/ (flip flop) when I return with my clean rag, "CRC" RV "Power Lube" rack/pinion spray, "CRC" battery corrosion prevention and high hopes this will not be too costly and time consuming. Now, where are those old coveralls? Nice clean shop...looking ship-shape; I must add.

Hi, Thank you for your video! I have had my RV for about 5 years. I was not aware the slide needs to be all the way in or all the way out. I left it many times about halfway. Now under the dinette seats, there is a musty smell. I ripped out the carpet under both seats, cleaned thoroughly with baking soda, vinegar, tea tree oil, and bought an air dryer. I open everything up when I leave and put on an electric fan. When it is closed up it starts to smell musty again. Any suggestions?
@therealjr91754 жыл бұрын
Have to find the source of the mold and eliminate it. If you have never checked your silicon sealant on the RV find a credible rv dealership to do a pressure leak test on the RV. Make sure that water is not coming in from somewhere else. Another thing you can do if you are sure that water is not coming in is roof vent covers. I recommend the MaxAirII, we have a video on the different types. Installing them will allow air to circulate in your RV while it is sitting without rain coming in the roof vent

@KeystoneRVCenter5 жыл бұрын
If you're speaking of the jacks that you place under the slide out room to "stabilize" them, we say "No!" The use of slide out room jacks can void your warranty and the manufacturer of the unit says NOT to use them. They put pressure on the bottom of the slide and cause the slide room to become misaligned. They also will reduce the amount of seal you get on the top of the slide out room and could cause your slide out room to leak.

The grinding noise at the end of the slide movement has me worried on my RV you say it is normal. Could you explain why is a noise like gears stripping is normal , Thanks
@KeystoneRVCenter5 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't make a grinding noise, it should be a "clicking" or "ratcheting" sound. You do need to let go of the button as soon as you hear it, what you're hearing is the ram reaching the end of it's stroke and the gear "ratcheting" to prevent it from stripping out and continuing to attempt to push the slide room further than the stop allows. If it is in fact a grinding sound you should have it checked out.

@@KeystoneRVCenter I'm told some slide out systems have automatic shut off so we can hold the switch forever because it automatically shuts off when the slide is all the way out. To me this is a much more intelligent design and the purpose of advancement education science and technology which makes life easier, simpler, cheaper, safer, less stressful and more fun and peaceful for all humans.

I actually just purchased a keystone hideout and I was wondering how I'd go about cleaning the rust on the long drive bolt things lol, Should I take a wire brush and clean in then use some sort of rust dissolver then can I paying it with some spray paint or would that make the layers too thick and cause issues with paint chips or hiding rust..I feel as though I should give them some TLC before I really hit the road

Some slides use plastic ramps at the bottom. Get that looked at. Could be an alignment issue

Hi Batman, I have a slide out problem on my 2019 Aspen Trail RV. I don't have a battery because I have electric power hookups. The slide out motor isn't working. Is there someway I can troubleshoot it or can it come out manually? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks and have a great day. Shari

Hello guys, Love the info you give out. So my question to you guys if you can elaborate about the slide out supports. I bought my self a 2014 Keystone Outback and am currently living out of it. I have my slide outs out most of the time. My buddy who’s been Doing RV stuff for most his life. Swares by the “RV supports” because they need to be supported if they are left out for extended periods of times and will brake down if they are not supported. What do I do?
@KeystoneRVCenter3 жыл бұрын
Listen to the manufactures that say do not use slide supports as it will void the warranty. I do not use them at my own permanent site location. JR

I have a 2011 Keystone Outback that I bought a few months ago. The one that has the slide out in the back for the master bedroom. I was thinking about getting the support jacks that go underneath the slide out when I noticed the slideout is no longer level but after sliding it out it leans downhill somewhat. Not sure what is causing this but I would say it does need support. Any suggestions?
@KeystoneRVCenter2 жыл бұрын
They were notorious for the top header going weak and leaning. We all cringe with them. At one point they tried putting in slide braces from the factory but they finally stop building them for some time. The RS (rear slide) models scare us as dealer on trade. This is why I hate the fact they have a similar name to us. Luckily we sell Jayco & Forest River Products -JR

I’ve seen a video or two about using talcum powder on the slide seals as opposed to a spray that will attract dirt. What do you advise as far as talcum powder use?
@timcreech8435 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a 2003 5th wheel forest river cardinal and have always used talcum powder on slide seals never had any trouble and have never had to replace them and they look just like they did when I purchased it new so go figure to each there own and it sits out side uncovered except in winter then I cover it up
@KeystoneRVCenter5 жыл бұрын
We would suggest following your manufacturers care instructions during the warranty period. I've not used talcum powder nor have I really heard of many people doing it, it doesn't mean it doesn't work but the use of unapproved substances on the slide seals could harm them or void the warranty.
@LyfUninterrupted5 жыл бұрын
Talcum powder contains a friable form of Asbestos. Or at least it use to. Check out the class action lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson. I use a dry lube that does not attract dirt. Never use WD40.

All wear points needs to be lubed. Look for worn metal and lube it. But most systems recommend the bottom gears over to prevent over lubrication

I have a keystone 2006 Montana model number 3500 RL and my slide won't go back in. I've only had this trailer for 2 days. Is there anything I could try? Things I have tried was at the pump there is a manual mode if you put a 1/4 hex screw in but that didn't take in the slides at all. I was trying to figure out how to get underneath the bed in the master but it is completely boxed in to take a look at a motor there. Now when I do touch the slide button for it to come in the motor is running on its own. That's the motor in the hall. I'm not sure about the actual individual slide motors. Now how it works in that 2006 the first slide that goes in is the bedroom slide then the living room slides and then the kitchen slide. It's a total of four slides altogether. Any help from anyone at this point would be nice.

Is it ok to use grease on the gear part of the slide?
@therealjr17155 жыл бұрын
With the slides that I am familiar with no. Grease attracts dirt and that can destroy the gear system
