Thank you for your video. Regarding 8:36, the L scale is used to find Common Logarithms. This is because the L scale is divided into equidistant subdivisions like on a ruler. On the other hand, the C and D scales are divided into logarithmic subdivisions. To find the Common Logarithm of a number, locate the number on the D scale and read its Common Logarithm on the L scale. For example, locate 3.16 on the D scale and read on the L scale that its Common Logarithm is 0.5. Also notice that 0.5 on the L scale happens to be located at the midpoint of the L scale. Correspondingly 3.16 is located at the midpoint of the D scale. Other more advanced slide rules may include LL scales also known as Log Log scales which are based on Natural Logarithms rather than Common Logarithms.
