I filmed these clips southbound on the Bruce Highway between Mackay and Rockhampton, although a few maybe south of Rocky. It was late at night and I had been going all day.

dad was a truckie road train driver. every weekend he came home we go out fishing he had to retire due to health problems but he kept working out on the farms. every weekend till the day he passed away we went fishing abd he always had a bottle of beer in one hand the fishing rod in the other and we both just burst out singing lights on the hill cause it was the only song i knew off by heart and well dad's favourite song ever.

True story : Slim Dusty and I had a beer in Boydy's hotel in Mt Isa many years ago after he snuck in at 5 45 am and as I was walking past on way to work ( They used to open the pub from 5 30 am to get the indigenous population served with take away's only and out of town before business started on dole day, council by-law ).. long story short, Slim, myself and the barman were pissed as farts by 8 am before we parted ways.. I remember telling Slim my boss is never going to believe why I rocked up late and drunk... he didn't.

I drove this road for a while when my body could still take it. It was a hairy bit of Tar back then and quite a few died while I was around. Imagine looking at Slim's little video for 14 hours a day and you'll get the idea. The 'Dusty' kept me company on many a night- and probably ALIVE on more than a few.

I put a Kenny over just north of the Byron Bay turnoff at Tyagarah Creek on the old Pacific Hyway, had a caravan coming at me swaying side to side on the skinny bridge, I tried to move over on the shoulder but here wasn't one, I felt the trailer start to go. The old blokes who taught me my trade at Pittmans Transport hat told me if it's going don't fight it & throw it on it's side, when it came to rest all that I think was I've got to get out here before it starts to burn. Anyone who'd seen the wreck couldn't believe that I'd lived as the steering wheel was embedded into the drivers seat, it just wasn't my time I guess. Thank you Joey Moore, Jack Nickleson & the rest of the "pension patrol", what you taught me helped me to stay alive that night

Either way MegaSkitzo is also a name on the wall,, Tourist took him on and he rolled over I think near Marlborough,, or he was near sarina and Fat Man near Marlborough.. Either way that stretch of the highway has taken many lives and I too drive it daily at a high risk...

Keith Starr Quite a lot of Aussies go over to America to drive and they get used to driving on the the wrong side, ooops, I meant the opposite side of the road so you'll do alright. I remember a Canadian talking on the CB one night, back in about 1987 or so, the biggest problem he said he had was going to the truck and opening the wrong door.
