I've actually been here. They have a massive hearse festival called "hearsemania" here and my mom and I went to sell silverware jewelry. As someone with VERY little interest in the paranormal, I can say it's absolutely worth stopping out if you're in the area. The guided tours are very informative, and you can tell the owners of the property aren't just trying to cash in on "ghost hunters" they actually care about the history of the place. It's absolutely astounding the conditions that the poor "patients" had to endure. "Fun" facts. TALA is the second largest hand-carved sandstone building in the world. No.1 is the Kremlin in Russia. If you were a woman in the late 1800's your husband could just commit you because you had a particularly bad period, and only the person who signed you in can sign you out. If you had a child in the facility, that child could never leave, as it was believed that insanity was passed down through the mother. Dr Walter Freeman performed over 200 lobotomies at the facility in 12 days in the summer of 1952.
