When your new hanger is swept out, if you do it, take steps to avoid contracting hantavirus from breathing dust. Have the landlord clean it or if you clean it, wear a half-faced respirator, with air purifying cartridges (hot pink color), or an N95/KN95. Make sure you have a good fit.

I bet you are at the stage what people say 90% done, 90% to go 😁 Wish I could also come out there to give you a hand moving her to the hangar and get those wings mounted. Good luck with the move and interesting discussion in the comments about the flap switch

The GAD27 also allows you to program the Flaps settings, so you didn't need to re-wire it to the VPX for that.
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
The vpx replaxes the gad27 in my setup. I think adding a gad27 when you have a vpx allows the flap retraction to be done step by step, but other than that the vpx covers all its other functionality as far as I know
@Raladic4 жыл бұрын
Evan Brunye ah I see, so yes if you don’t need a GAD27 for things like the discrete inputs, then yes, the other operations it provides more or less overlap with the VPX.

Those threaded holes you talked about might be for an engine preheat system which you might consider in Idaho. I just got a Tanis for my Tsi as I live in Bend OR and it has four threaded probes any a pad.

Good point! Oh well, for now I’ll route it that way and if a heater or something needs those mount bolts in the future I’ll just reposition it with some zip ties

Enjoying the build Evan. I just moved hangers at KTOA near Wayne's TSI at the end of the East T's. Hopefully I'll hear my kit is en route from Durban within the next week or so. Hope to be building at TAF by mid October....And we know, "hope springs eternal"! lol

Brilliant Vlog on your build, keep up the good work. My immediate reaction when you said one click and all the flaps retract could be deadly on a go around. If I understand your reply, you can control the speed of the flap retraction and can make it stop with another click of the switch?
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. It’s very easy to avoid accidentally clicking the switch, to the point where it would be pure carelessness to accidentally click it. But if you do, you would know. It takes a firm pressure to activate it and you would feel it. Just click it again the other way and retraction stops. Also the retraction speed can be made to be very slow, which I’ll definitely play with to see what works best.

Congrats on the hanger. Double check your negative terminal on the firewall. It does not look to have enough threats engaged in the nut. I am sure you torqued it but the threads look to be just a bit short.

Looks great Evan! Nice find on the hangar. I also found one for sale this weekend, but I don’t think I want to spent the money right now, as I’m not yet ready to move in. Where did you buy your Sikaflex from? I think I need to get some soon.
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Nice man. I’m just leasing this hangar, it’s dirt cheap that way until I can find one at a closer airport then I might buy. If the demand is as high in your area as it is out here you might want to jump on it and just rent it out for a while! The supplier I used to get the sika and all the primer stuff for it was Jamestown distributors- www.jamestowndistributors.com

Wish we had airfields like this in the U.K. You say the runway is only 2900ft - that’s quite a bit bigger than my local grass strip. I’ve been trying to find performance figures for the TSi, but can’t find anything on line. All I’ve read are reviews saying how well it performs and fully loaded got airborne by the numbers at Big Bear 26, which looking at Google Maps seems to be around 600ft or so - if that’s accurate then that’d be great, but if it’s journalistic superlatives, I may be struggling. Are there any actual perf notes for the aircraft? The local strip is just over 400m of grass, which may prove a little tight - but hellish convenient, being just 5 minutes away!
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
The takeoff distance you're seeing there in the video is almost exactly what the spec for the plane is. They say it takes off in 590 feet and can land in 490 feet. Airplane Factory has changed it's name or something at some point to Sling Aircraft, and have a new website with more detail on performance. Check it out here- www.slingaircraft.com/aircraft/sling-tsi/

You’ve mentioned in a few responses to comments over the past months of building that the FAA will come in and do a final inspection before you start your 40 hours. Did you consider having an EAA Technical Advisor come in at some point to look over your shoulder in case you missed something? Are you a member of EAA, or are you doing this completely solo? It seems like they have a lot of good tools (the builder’s guide that came with the Kitfox, for example) and people to help. By the way, I went to TAF last week and got to try out the TSI and see some kits in various stages of build. It reacts WAY faster than my Cherokee and climbs like a heaven-bound angel (“Wait, stay UNDER the Class B shelf? Oops!”). I am looking forward to finding a pot of gold, getting the Quick Build kit, and being on my way!
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Edward Hefter yes I’m a member of the eaa. I had a technical counselor come in a few times along the way, but not since I moved to Idaho. At this point I’m so close to final inspection I’m just going to go for it. I’ve spoken to the local dar and know what he expects of me for the final inspection. The tsi flies like a dream! Once you fly it you’re hooked

Is your location cold in the winter? I was thinking the other day if it would be possible to tap into the coolant system and circulate to a heater of some sort to keep the heads warm... i haven't done any research on it and just a thought. What do you think?
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
ADD Dad pretty cool idea, but I’m pretty sure cold starts have more to do with the oil getting too thick to flow at low temperatures. There are systems available for a few hundred $$ that are basically heat pads that stick to the bottom of your engine block and your oil reservoir to preheat your engine. I lived in San Diego my whole life so I’ve got no experience with this! This winter will be my first in a colder climate here in Idaho so I guess I’ll have to figure it out pretty soon

Thomas Altruda the owner can’t sell it right now but once she gets some things worked out she’ll definitely be looking to sell it. It’s in rough shape though, it’s definitely been sitting in that hangar neglected for a few years
