Good first attempt! Maybe I need to send you a modern slingshot, with low forks, tapered flatbands and ergonomic handle. You also should hold the slingshot sideways (Gangsta Style), draw the pouch to the corner of your mouth as an anchor point, then aim over the upper fork tip. Much easier to hit your targets consistently.

Hi Kirsten, it's approaching 1:00am, and I'm watching this from Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. First of all, it's lovely to see another video from you, it's been a while. Secondly, when I was about 10 years old (far, far too many years ago...lol), I had to save my pocket money for quite a few weeks in order to buy a Black Widow catapult (aka slingshot). I used to use this in the fields behind my Grandparents house to see how far away I could hit tin cans with pebbles and stones, not just at ground level, but tied to tree branches as well. I also used to inflate balloons and tie them at different heights to see if I could hit those, especially if there was a breeze. I didn't realise it at the time that I was learning about trajectories and aim points to adjust where the pebbles hit. All I do know is that I spent hours in those fields trying different methods, and didn't need a computer to have fun. I now take part in bench rest air rifle and standing air pistol shooting, and whilst I might not hit the centre every time, I still love doing it. I absolutely LOVE your enthusiasm for shooting, so please keep the videos coming. Take care, and happy shooting xx

I've been into slingshots for 10 years and find it just as much fun as shooting anything else. Really cool that you stuck at it and started to get more consistent. The ideal projectile for the type slingshot and bands you were shooting would be 5/8 glass marbles or 3/8 to 5/8 steel. It would be great to see you try to light a match or split a playing card in half.

@Klaus Van Heusen 😆😀🤔 Never thought of it that way, but that's funny! I suppose it might look that way. It is actually more about getting the bands in line with the target that you can aim down, like a bowstring,. Then you just have to adjust elevation for distance. Holding the forks vertical leaves a lot more variables, and thus unpredictable results, IMHO. Oh, and since you are aiming down the bands, safety glasses are ESSENTIAL! If a band breaks, part of it is probably coming back towards your face.

Glad you found the fun of many of my most fondest memories as a kid. My Brother and I would sit on our porch for hours at a time shooting our slingshots, that was until we decided it was a lot of fun to shoot out windows on an old building on the farm. Mom broke 2 switches on us and then Dad got home and it didn't get better. We eventually earned them back but stayed away from the old windows. A couple of tips, the larger sized balls will make it easier to learn with, after you get proficient, then switch to the smaller ones for longer range and they are powerful enough to take small game with a good hit. Also, you can get a magnet on a stick for cleaning up nails on a jobsite from a hardware store to sweep over the ground to recover the ammo. Small pebbles from river rock works darned well too, and a flat one can be skipped across a pond or stream way with a sling shot way better than any hand thrown one.

Great to see you so excited about a new adventure. Your pro slingshot was known as a wrist rocket when they first came out. They have several different degrees of tubing to use. When I first started dating my wife her father was woken by his female Springier. He got up to shoot out the upstairs window in the dark. Not totally a wake. Using a ball bearing trying to hit the roof of her pin it was metal. BOOOOM he hit his thumb. It instantly swelled. He went down stairs took a drill bit twisted it into his thumb nail to relive the pressure. BOOOM blood shot all over the kitchen. Just a little fun fact.

Just a few notes: First - A slingshot (wrist rocket) is something of a challenge even though it feels like something you should just be able to pick up and run with. Second - Like a bow and arrows sometimes a slingshot is best just used without "aiming" but relying on basic hand eye coordination. Third (and last) - I personally like large heavy and slow projectiles so I always keep a bag of marbles around for slingshot ammo, while not as accurate at distance (due to the lack of a tail/sprue) they will thump a can full of water (or whatever) at close range.

Bravo on the slingshot shooting! Thanks for venturing into this. It brings back memories. We used to call those wrist rockets as kids. We used to hunt squirrels & chipmunks. We'd use the most round, marble sized rocks we could find or some of my Dad's. 44 cal. muzzle loader round lead bullets he'd make himself by melting down tire weights. A larger round works better in a sling shot, I've found, since you can see it traveling toward the target, giving you feedback on how to adjust your "aim". In my opinion, it's not aiming in the technical sense, but more about knowing how the round will go, by the way you're holding your 2 hands. Hard to explain, but, as you know, it comes automatically with LOTS of practice. I've still got a wrist rocket in my garage, think I'll give it shot! Be well!

Some of my top tips for shoot slingshots: 1.) shooting with your forks side ways is much easier to aim (gangster style). 2.) flat bands are agreed to be more accurate than tubes. 3.) the slingshot frame used is considered hard to manage for beginners. Try Simpleshot, proshot catapults or gzk for serious aiming frames. 4.) good beginner ammo is 8mm or 10mm steel (grab the ball not the pouch. 5.) find an anchor point like archery, and pull your bands straight so the top makes the bottom band disappear. This was a fun video that reminds me of when I first tried out slingshot shooting! But instinctive shooting is absent in the present day competitive shooting world. You can decide on your style of shooting that you prefer as well OTT (over the top) or TTF (through the forks). If you practice, hitting a bottle cap at 20 yards is easier done with proper technique. Fowler’s makers and mischief KZbin channel has the best tutorial on how to shoot a slingshot.

When the rubber breaks it can do some damage with the backlash. So, yes, safety glasses are a good practice. Marbles really are the best ammo for a slingshot. You get the highest velocity to weight ratio therefore a better ballistic coefficient. Excellent out to treetop range. Think squirrels and pecan grove. Get a bag of marbles from the hobby store in a high visibility color so you can trace them all the way to your target. 000 buck shot pellets might do pretty good but I've never tried them. 3/8" steel pellets fly really good and deliver plenty of energy to the target. Think cottontail. Rocks and 3/8" nuts do well at close range but tend to curve or veer off course outside of a few yards. Think bullfrog. All in all a slingshot or wrist rocket is an effective small game harvesting tool that has put food in the belly of quite a few hungry boys. It's discouraged quite a few neighborhood bullys, too. And more than once sent a trail blocking viper looking for another spot to soak up the sun on a hot summer day. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and bring back some memories. Dad "helped" me make my first one when I was about eight years old. It looked kinda like the one you got at the gas station.

I started with handmade sling shots. We scrounge up a branch and cut it into a Y, attach heavy rubber bands and use an old scrap of leather for the pouch. Great fun. In the 70's we make three-man (person) sling shots out of a funnel and two long sections of surgical tubing. We could launch oranges well over a hundred feet and get pretty good distance with water balloons too. We used to call them funnelators. Good times!

LOL. Old timers used carve them like the wooden one, only little wider. Two flat pieces band and leather pouch that you held the ammo to shoot. We always used gravels, small rocks. Those store bought ones don't get the pressure on it. Those bands on old ones would stretch two feet; you could hear it whistle when it left on way to the target. . Cans, a target were usual aiming points. Some people hunted rabbit or squirrel with them. You're amazing, especially being able to hit anything with a tiny BB. Love it when you're smiling. 🔥🔥🔥⚡😍. Always informative and fun.

The latex they use today have a maximum strength factor of 8. 10 inch band, 80 inches stretched. They don't survive many shots at that stretch level though. Stretching them 4-5 times is most common.

Now that you found your aiming technique, I encourage you to pull that pocket all the way back like in archery. Much more power. Much more Thwack. Much for fulfillment! Thanks for your fun videos!

Just last weekend I showed mom and dad how to shoot sling shots with acorn ammo. Funny you have this now. Great Fun.

Don't be afraid of it. Crank that thing back! I used to be pretty good with a wrist rocket years ago. And it was crazy powerful and could shoot a 1/4 bearing a few hundred yards but they stopped making those bands. Lots of fun!!

As many have mentioned, marbles are good, but ball bearings are my preferred ammo. Steel is over 3x more dense than glass. Cheap, too! Also you might consider some lightweight leather gloves, at least on your left hand. Still have scars on my hand from years ago!

Very cool video! You're superfocus look showed you would deffo pick it up & get regular hits! Brings back memories..my cousins & i had..they were called "Wrist Rockets" back in the day.. the cool kind you employed here, with the wrist brace. We'd wear out the tubing & had to source more surgical tubing. 0 or 00 buckshot makes for great ammo, but ofc nice rocks are free & don't need to be found/ picked up, aha. Depends if..just 'plinking' or trying to be extra accurate..then the round shot ofc is best.

Yep, slingshots are a challenge...grew up on slingshots...we often hand-made our own from a tree branch of the right size and shape along with old bicycle inner tubes and a small piece of leather from old shoes. Yes, early on you drop some ammo. We didn’t use BBs (too small) but at first we used the roundest rocks we could find which was difficult. Eventually, we got smarter, found ball bearings or stripped old junk to find them. Best ammo I could recommend would be smaller marbles...in the 60s and 70s, marbles were both cheap and abundant. I think that you’ll keep practicing, and I know you’ll get better!

As a less-than-professional shooter, I’ve gotten some valuable information about shooting from you. I’m sure that info is available on other channels, too, but you’re more fun to watch.

As silly as they look, these slingshots are extremely lethal. I seen the power and the lethality it can do with them with a metal BB. Nice to see a video from you again!

You would be surprised at how far back you can pull that rubber and it will not snap. Keep it oiled and it won't oxidize and crack. I have the same slingshot and it can launch a medium size ball bearing 150 yards with ease.
