if you miss a lot of shots, you can try to spam on the enemy to hit it once so the shield regen interrupts, (doesn't work on sub or medkit) then you can go back to hitting with charging. if enemy is at

I think having the ability to charge but spam also is a nice utility for most cases i'll charge halfway or full (and always full or near full when airwalking) but in some cases for when the enemy is at critical health (below 5) or i want to stop someone from regenerating shield, i'll spam it for a moment

However! Spamming will ensure that the enemies do not regenerate shield and health! So dont just charge your shots. If you want to hunt low health players you might want to switch it!

How about half charging? Is it better for dps or should you only do it to finish off very low hp targets?

charging it at 60% provides the same dps, and is less punishing when missing a shot. charging it at like 20-30% is good for killing off low targets

These are all true but, if You want to play a more supportive role the spam can be effective in draining HP slowly while Your team get the kills. (like subspace) So its not the best, but you can.
