Slingshot Slingwing V4 - Unboxing and first impressions

Did you receive the new G1007 ? Looking forward to seeing your opinion on it especially for downwinders. I’m hoping to start going upwind with the wing deflating and coming back with a paddle, so if you have any gear tips it would be great. And cheers for all your tutorial vids.

Hey, I don't have the G1007 as I have a Sabfoil Leviathan 1150, a Sabfoil Razor 980 and Slingshot PTM930 for this kind of winging / downwinding. I usually tend to go more for the high aspect frontwings. They are faster and have good glide. I think in terms of riding waves mid-aspect are a little more relaxed and you can cruse on the wave. High aspect sometimes want to be driven fast and kept on speed (my style of riding). So I think it depends on what you are after?

@@hoppline i asked the question of the Slingshot foil design team about flatwater pumping and the said with some regret that you should try the lavithan 1350 but after seeing your barrel nuts bend I'm glad I ordered the G1007. Currently riding the G1000 for down winding with a foil drive. The G1007 will hopefully give me more battery life for those flat water pump days.. yes I know it's no 1350 but I don't want the extra stress on my gear. When I get it I'll put up a review

@@granthore90 I hate having too much gear and different systems and wish I could only use on set up and change frontwings. On pumping I am now down to the Sabfoil Razor 980 but it still has more chamber and lift than my PTM930. I guess sooner or later Slingshot will have a pump line or dedicated DW line, too....

Hey, you are absolutely right, but unfortunately they are not yet available. At least here in Germany. Same for the Slingwing NXT, can't wait to test this baby. Hopefully my review of the V4 will be online by tomorrow (-: Spoiler: Super solid wing, slight change in Slingwing DNA and a minor drawback (-:

@@hoppline certainly interested to hear what you mean by a shift in the DNA, I started on the V1 SW enjoyed the V2, I wasn't a fan of the long soft handles on the V3 from there I went to the Javelin boom wing. I know the NXT is in the next launch but I thought the carbon handles were in the current release. I'm probably wrong. I enjoyed your stabiliser review. I've been down winding on the G1000 using a foil drive on a 5'2" slingshot high roller...the foil drive is an awesome tool.

@@granthore90 Wish I had a foil drive!! First I thought it was bulky and inconvenient but now I think it might be the easiest way to get into downwinding. I am learning it the hard way right now. It's fun but really frustrating at the same time (-: As far as I know, there will be hard handles for the NXT and the V4 saving you roughly 300 grams in weight.

Hey, winds coming up on the weekend so there will be a first review very soon. Soft and carbon handles are announced but not available yet as far as I know.

Anxiously Looking for your impressions on the water.. especially vs v3 hh and v3/v2 soft. I prefer that the handles are longer and more like a boom (which is what latest duotone unit has.. mainly because can grab it nearer the center of force if i need to. The wing's certainly look better than the old ones as far as appearance goes on the water IMO.. Perhaps this is a smaller wing and the larger wings will have longer handles.. Thanks for unboxing vid. UPDATE and a little bit answer to my own comment/question.. looks like the 5m and higher have 400mm vs 300mm handles and according to this video position is ok for handling it with one hand. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXawoGihjt91gtk

Hey, yes, will do a comparison soon. Wind forcast went down and I only had a quick session yesterday. V4 is significant deeper and not so wide. Good low end, grunt and power. Balance is okay, not sure about one hand riding yet as it was super gusty yesterday. Hopefully get some wind today to get back were I left yesterday (-:
