Slip systems are a combination of highest planar density planes and highest linear density directions. FCC and BCC have more slip systems than HCP which explains why HCP metals are much more brittle in nature.

We COMPLETELY skipped over this explanation in my class. Thank you so much for the video, Taylor!

This is so clear, thank you! Can you please expand on why the slip direction is the one with the highest linear density?
@TaylorSparks3 жыл бұрын
Not entirely certain. I would assume it's the one that minimizes strain during slip

Thank you sir. a short question: In the case of a rhombohedral or simple cubic material, would there be only 3 slip planes? Because the planes with the highest density are (001), (100), and (010)? Is it then also true that because of the low amount of slip systems, it is more likely to twin?

Thank you very much for this explanation. I am an exchange student from Sweden in France and unfortunately I don't understand the French lectures..yet!

What a surprise to hear the voice I've been listening too on the materialism podcast explain some material from a lecture I missed haha

is there anything we should know about the magnitude in a slip system, Sir??...thank you SOO much by the way for making slip systems way more cooler and simple to understand, Sir🔥♥️

I wish I knew more about the magnitude, but I don't.

I don't undarstand why it is not 8 instead of 12. My explaination: every plane has isolated one corner, so how can you count 12?
