Audi Allroad equipped with low range - additional shift stage itself has no effect on the result, but its activation changes the operation of the EDL system. And well - the result turned out to be exactly the opposite of what was expected. We have our assumptions as to why this happened, but without suggesting anything, we are interested in your opinion 🙂
@Softroader4 күн бұрын
The results are so strange. The 2.5 TDI version seems to need less engine speed for the EDL/EDS to kick in. This must be a setting that takes into account the greater torque at low revs. However, this setting does not change in the low range, and therefore does not take into account the increase in torque associated with this low range. No hidden ‘Offroad’ mode, either for the EDL/EDS or the ESP...

@@Softroader Docs say that low range changes the EDL setup. And indeed it changes that but not in the way I expected - there's more wheelspin...
@Softroader4 күн бұрын
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Perhaps it is. But there's a world of difference between what a textbook says, without being particularly precise, and reality. What does offroad mode mean? More interventions? Earlier? Stronger? Especially when offroad, the ‘optimum’ traction control setting depends on the surface you're riding on, and sometimes too much traction control can be damaging to progress. The development of systems with several selectable modes is not just a question of marketing.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers4 күн бұрын
@@Softroader They say: "The EDL in the allroad quattro has also been adapted to accommodate the low range additional shift stage. As the wheel torque is increased by a factor of 1.54 in low range mode, it is desirable to reset the minimum control thresholds. As shown in illustration 241_099, the minimum control thresholds can be very low in low range mode. When cornering, this would lead to undesirable EDL control intervention. EDL control is therefore suppressed when cornering is detected (via the ESP input values). The function is automatic when the additional shift stage has been actuated." The only clear thing from the graph is that EDL should intervene at lower speed difference between the wheels.

Pretty disappointing. I expected a much bigger difference but it seems the system still needs an excessive amount of wheelspin to do anything...

Pretty strange result, not entirely sure what the Audi engineers and marketing people were thinking when they stole the term low range from the off-road world. What do you think this system actually does?

@@CanadaLuke Low range itself has 1.54 ratio but it's not the point. The point is that it engages different EDL operation.

Thats pretty damn sad performance, somehow the center diff has sooo much slip you have yo floor it to make enough torque to get over the rollers Do you have a crane type scale? I would love to know the draw force required to pull a car off one or more rollers, can you push an average car on or off them with just people?

Prawdopodobnie. Pozdrawiam.
