I feel like this era of slipknot got overlooked in a lot of ways, but back then, it was a really prominent shift in their sound.

when this album dropped back then i was kinda disappointment cause it was very easy to see that his voice was pretty much done for at that point and going forward it would be a huge departure from the first two albums. of course now i love this album but back then i didnt

I still hate this era to this day. 14 year old me was so disappointed when vol 3 dropped. Iv since gave it so many chances I just hate it. Even hate the masks. Just my opinion but I am glad other people enjoy it.

vol 3 is hands down their most refined sound they have ever created.... self titled and iowa are ridiculously godly raw albums but as far as songwriting and song composition vol3 is like slipknot the movie... incredible album that stands above all of their albums in that department.

omg, jesus I feel old. I still think of this as one of the 'new' Slipknot albums. It was such a shift from Iowa that it drew a line in the sand. I loved the album but a bunch of people I knew were all pissy about it for whatever reason. Like ooooo he didn't swear every other word and it sounded artsy or something. Idk, but dayum, seeing 2004 in the title really was a shock.

This album was their biggest artistic leap forward since corey joined the band. Everything learned from the first two albums, corey's voice needing to change, and even the overrated Rick Rubin, made this album what it is. Easily one of the greatest metal albums ever, and one of the best albums to ever exist.
