While this is an interesting take, War's soulful vocals and downbeat vibe moved and move me every time. I'm sure they could have stretched this out as well. This song couples together with "The World is a Ghetto," songs about the bleak atmosphere facing people in the hood. To this day "Slippin' Into Darkness " is one of my favorite songs to sing along to. I am a fan of Chris Robinson's singing. He's really taken care of his voice, and unlike some of his unfortunate 90s singing contemporaries, he's still above the dirt.
