As John lock often says "you can catch big fish on small hooks but you can't catch small fish on big hooks " . I got a pack of very similar pre hook n weighted little sandeels 15 gram and I used em Last year with great success on big Pollack and mackerel, it was one of those days where the shinny metal wasn't working and after catching a couple of nice fish the lads I was with were "oh do you have one I could borrow?" Borrow I said lol!! And I only had 5 and rock marks like that have snags so I think between us 1 lure returned but we all caught a good few fish b4 they either got snagged or were just chewed to pieces after all the hits from Pollack..

That's a lovely looking Bay at the end of the video, we really are lucky to have such beautiful locations in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤ gorgeous bass , I've only ever caught tiny schooley bass they're few and far between down my local spot and although I do know of a couple of beaches where people catch em fairly regularly at this time of year but they are remote areas I don't drive no buses and I couldn't manage a 20 mile walk but I do keep hinting to my m8 that I know of a couple of hot spots I'll show him if he doesn't mind doing the transport, it's just too good an opportunity to miss out on this chance of a keeper bass, that said they recently got rid of the species signs and size limits on the piers down south of the island and theirs just one picture of a bass and the take home size has to land between 50cm to 60cm no more no less. Is their any rules like that where you fish? As I know it's different all over the country ie in Cornwall I think you weren't allowed to keep any bass at all for so many months of the season.

My daughter and I just got back from 3 days on Skye and 4 days at Carradale bay. loving the new videos from you mate!! the 1 thing I struggle with is locating a potential fishing spot... is there going to be a vid from you explaining you're process and methods to determine a good fishing mark?????
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
I wasn't planning on doing one, but now you've mentioned it, it seems like a good idea. The things that determin a good mark can change depending on the species you're after- bass are often in shallow water, pollack tend to like deeper water. What species do you normally target?
@stegreen6403 жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets well there are 2 different areas I fish wich are the Llyn Peninsula and North Wales coast wich is onto shallow sand beaches. you can get most species on the Llyn and the beaches produce bass smoothhound bull huss Thornbury Ray and on the rare occasion tope upto but no more than 10lb. For me the advice I'd find priceless is how to assess an area and determine what to fish for and best methods. you're videos are very precise in terms of you know what species are in the area what method will produce and you seem to be able to determine this from just looking at the type of mark you're on.. I struggle to identify species to tactics unless I've spoken to someone local...
@chrismordue5741 Жыл бұрын
Hey. I've just started to lure fish so very novice question (or maybe just daft) how long do you usually give a location, when targeting bass before you move onto the next?
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
Hey, that's a good question and one that's hard to give a definitive answer to. It really just depends on how fishy an area looks. I like to fish any point with a topwarer lure because, if the fish are there, they'll show up in a few casts. If not, then I'll try a sub surface and a soft plastic. If I don't catch within a few casts of these then I'll move on. Hope this helps

Rather than pull off, when they go into the kelp/leaving the hook in, let out slack and take a break for 10 mins or so, or switch to a second blank, until you sense movement below, they will often come out when the pressures been off for a while. Depending on hook set, some of them don't survive if it stays in.

Great video! Any recommendations on breathable Chestie’s? I’m wanting a pair & have heard cheap or expensive none of them last long.

I've been using these Patagonia waders for 5 years now and can't fault them. Not remotely cheap but I've gone through 2 pairs of vass in the same time

why you not take the bass for the plate ?

I had some nice burgers to eat so didn't need to take it.

Great video as always, good to see you got your target species. Fantastic landscape. Was this England Scotland or Wales? Tight lines.

Pollack love those small crazys. Little flick and let them dart down . Or a little speed up and a dead pause . But if I let them swing down on a mended line I hit bass . Really don't know why the Ps like em drilling and the bass arcing. But I've had hundreds each way to establish both methods.
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
Good knowledge! It is strange because I find the pollack normally like a slower sinking bait. Codling like that lure on a slow sink/arc too
@leeevans18743 жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets I guess depth line drag and head weight vs body drag will make alot of variables. But what ever the speed I find the pollack like straight down on the crazy eels 😀

Good video mate. Would be good to see you try a bombarder float and saltwater flies? Also you changed your kayak? What happened to the viking profish 400?
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
It's funny, I've used Caro floats and I've got jig flies but never used them together. Maybe next time round. Well spotted, it's actually my first kayak. I was using it to gain shore marks and prefer scratching the hell out of the prowler rather than my Profish.
@Alexxx---1013 жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets What are caro floats? Or did you mean carp floats? Bombarder floats are transparent, sink slowly and cast well. You can fish weightless saltwater flies or tiny soft plastics at reasonable distance. Works well over shallow ground - definitely worth playing about with and would make a good video. Makes sense keeping an older kayak for the rough stuff - ocean kayaks are decent. 👍
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
Caro float works in the same way as a controller/bombarder float only smaller and you can choose different sink rates. It's a Japanese LRF technique for getting small lures/jigs out a good distance, so should work well with flies. I'll add a video on them into the planner👍 Yeah OK yaks are great, this one was battered when I bought it so I'll never notice new scratches 😄

@@SlippyLimpets Cheers Nathan, I will have to buy some caro floats and give them a try myself. Wasn't sure if it was a typo 🙂

What boots do you wear, seem to have good grip
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
I use some old running shoes. I take the lining out so they don't absorb too much water, and add Supatrac spikes to help with grip. Hope this helps👍🎣

Nath,which hooks do you advise using when getting rid of crap trebles on lures?
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
I tend to use 2/0 or 3/0 Decoy jiggin' Hooks but any jigging hook will work.
