@shinzero02714 жыл бұрын
He was never meant to be. Mr. X was the wandering cleanup crew intended to get rid of all witnesses. He was basic brute strength and really only a threat if he caught you by surprise (which is why he was a Ninja in cutscenes but could be heard coming from rooms away in gameplay). His mutation at the end of Leon's campaign in the remake of 2 was primarily due to damage received in a cut-scene (he's still missing about a 4th of his face and the entire claw looks to be scar tissue) and didn't match the original 'Super Form' lore that tied the mutations as a natural process if Tyrants didn't wear limiter clothing. I kinda wish they kept continuity by having the claw/scarred half match the same side of the body Birkin wrecked in Claire's scenario instead of it being tied to random explosions. Nemesis was the constantly evolving unstoppable assassin intended to get rid of specific, highly trained targets. He started off basic brute, became Spider-Man, turned into a Tyrant-Licker (essentially being the first Tyrant who's mutation matched what the T-virus is shown to do) , turned into tentacle-tyrant licker, turned into a giant... larva thing, then bloomed into a wall of flesh and claws. In the original game, he was actually fairly predictable once you've replayed the game. Guy was like a Mega-Man first stage boss and your actual enemy was the camera angle, controls, and resources (oh god the reloading was annoying).

I already noticed 30mins into the game that his encounters are almost all scripted encounters, not due to his AI actually finding you. And the few parts where he actually does go after you, it's not in a stage where he can freely roam. It's in a stage with almost one-way to go through it (one alleyway and whanot). Sure, there is a standard survival horror item management and pace-breakers of panic and silence that manage player's tension, but other then that - it feels nothing like something that could scare, let alone Silent Hill-ishly disturb you. It's in part due to you most-likely knowing where the game is going plot-wise, thus being unable to be surprised by it's happenings (you know the characters, the creatures, the locations, the events), but also in part to the fact that you are not doing much dealing with grounded, realistic events... The best example is the respective endings of both the original and the RE3 refake - in the original Jill Magnums the daylights out of Nemesis saying cheesy, but lovable "S.T.A.R.S. ? I'll show you S.T.A.R.S. !" while in the refake it's her with a railgun five times her weight going "Next time take a fucking hint !" The way people are describing how their "dream Nemesis" should've been is just plain ignorant. Fans seem to want Nemesis to work off of pathfinding AI and have ability to chase you as you venture throughout the ENTIRE city. The reason why Mr.X's pathfinding and chasing worked so well is how tight and layered the RPD building was. His close quarter combat and range of attacks by punching complemented the tight alleways in Re2. On the other hand, a monster who has a wide range of attacks that expand far beyond close quarter combat would not work out as nicely in this type of game if he worked similar to the Tyrant, especially since RE3 requires you to make a much greater amount of noise compared to RE2. I couldn't imagine how many times you would have to encounter Nemesis if he were to stalk you. If the Nemesis were to follow the player and become sound-based attracted, I'm confident to say that many fans would consider him overpowered and "too difficult" to deal with. No matter what the devs do, the fans will never be happy.

Considering the ps1 game had him follow you,only being scripted AFTER you've knocked him out and being able to follow you into 90% of rooms,plus having a much larger map means this game has no excuse for nemmy being the way he is,people are upset cause they downgraded re3,which was known for its randomization,semu open world and hopelessness and made it a scripted straight beeline to the end,which while fun,isnt re3.

@@thatlat5831 not nostalgia goggles if everything I described is part of its scripted programming,that just proves my point even more that new nemmy was very poorly programmed. Also that still doesnt justify the new games linear map with an enemy whose literally known for following you everywhere not following you for half the damn game. At least classic nemmy was relentless in his pursuit often randomly appearing in your way as that was the whole point of re3,a game that changes every time you play

After just playing the og resident evil 3, nemesis is just as scripted as the remake. It's not as a big change as we thought, it's just that his appearances felt more random in the original.

I have a love-hate relationship with this game as the OG is my fave. Damn. I never knew Nemmy was this scripted. I noticed he teleports out of nowhere, but there was no AI for stalking is a problem on its own. They just made him a roadblock and not a pursuer as his name should be. Mr. X had better AI than him and he's supposed to be the stalker of the series. *sigh

I think it's more on how he's handled. He lives up to the Terminator reference in form 1 (they even use audio cues similar to Terminator) , then becomes an Aliens reference in form 2, complete with an Alien Queen (hooked up to her egg sac) similarity in his final form. Mr. X was always like a weaponless Jason Vorhees. You knew he was around after his appearance, and you could hear him coming. If you didn't make noise, you could probably get him to go past whatever room you're in unless he needs to go through it anyway.

For people comparing Mr. X and Nemesis. Nearly half of RE2 took place inside the RCPD which allowed Mr. X to freely search for you in a closed space. It also made sense that he would hear you if you ran or shot weapons from any room inside the RCPD and come to your location. For the most part RE3 takes place in the streets and various locations across Raccoon City. Stage 1 Nemesis being reduced to “scripted” appearances and areas make sense for the story and gameplay. Also in the areas that he’s allowed to, he actively chases the player. Unfortunately the logic from RE2 wouldn’t work here. If nemesis was looking for Jill in the area by the RCPD and heard Jill shoot her gun in the area near the donut shop, then realistically he couldn’t get to Jill before she left the area because of the openness of the map. Also Nemesis constantly following the payer while completing objectives the entire city portion of the game certainly wouldn’t been received well by the general population of gamers. Especially when taken into account the criticisms Mr. X received just from that portion of RE2. Mr. X WALKED and would only attack the player by grabbing or punching while Nemesis did those things as well and had a tentacle that would pull the player back to him. Given the more “realistic canon” that Capcom is trying to achieve with the remakes and future storylines, it seems unfortunately fitting for a “scripted” Nemesis to exist.
@groinBlaster31 Жыл бұрын
It's true that with the final game design it wouldn't make sense for nemesis to roam... But they could have just designed it differently. i think that's the general complaint.

I mean, this game was clearly a love letter to the original 3. There are so many little touches and references in references that you can see that they put a lot of work into it. It made some big changes, and people are definitely mad about cut areas (I don't miss the clocktower or graveyard at all, those places were the worst for me in the original but I do miss the remnants of the Delta Force vs multiple T-103 battle and hope they add it in as a DLC scenario maybe focused on Nicholai). People act like Capcom has a single studio and that it was actually made in the 1 year between RE2remake and it's release when it had been started around the same general time though we have no idea what problems arose during the development process. They also assume Resistance cut into it's development when Resistance was worked on for nearly as long and had been intended to be a separate game. I honestly think there is no way to win with remakes in general unless you pull a GC RE1 and basically redo the entire game 1:1 and then add onto that rather than making big changes. The FF7 remake also received similar flak initially because of the changes despite having a crazy-intricate combat system, turning a 3-6 hour portion of the original game into a 20-90 hour game depending on how much extra you do, and making some serious changes at the end while also calling out remake 'purists'. I think if RE3's remake had more of it's early game and Spider-Man/Nemesis encounters (and not even necessarily the missing areas, just more city before everything caught fire8) people/purists would've liked it more.
