Sliprings are great pieces of tech. I found them by googling how Ferris Wheels work.

Thanks - I couldn't decide whether they would get annoying or not. Perhaps if they varied slightly (either a different sound for each rune, or perhaps just a set of sword-slicing sound effects that were chosen randomly) that would prevent the risk of repetitiveness?

Hello Alister? Let me ask you a different question. Can you make money with the creation of mechanisms for escape room? I'm from Brazil. With the pandemic I had to close my ecape room. I have another source. I would like to reopen, but the situation is difficult. Any tips out there? Congrats on channel l!!!

Hi - there is definitely a market for creating and selling escape room props. However, shipping physical products around the world has been an absolute nightmare over the last few years - not just the cost and unreliability of shipping, but taxes, changing import regulations regarding electrical safety certifications etc. and it is tricky to oversee installation and maintenance of devices remotely. If you wanted to earn money as a prop creator, I would recommend you advertise your services to escape rooms in your local area (at least to start with). And good luck!

@@PlayfulTechnology Thanks. I think I'll try first to reopen my escape room and then move on to creating for other stores. Once again, congrats on the channel.

Very cool effect with the fading.

Thankyou - it does make the code a little more complicated to follow, but I think the output is worth it. Obviously in a finished prop you'd probably put some sort of diffuser over the LEDs themselves anyway, which makes the glow even more subtle.

Good video, might have been interesting to cut the slipring open to show how it works inside.

I have used the dfplayer mini for a long time now.. I must say I find your player interesting mainly because of the 3.5 mm Jack. Since the library is big and unnecessary I wrote my own uart code, does your mp3 player use the same main code functions?

I've used quite a lot of DFPlayers too, and in general very successfully - it's only recently I started having a few problems with them. I know there are lots of counterfeit chips around, so maybe I got a bad batch. This player has very similar functionality, and I think it might be based on the same chip (described as either YX5200/YX5300/MH2024K), but trying to find reliable schematics is hard! You can certainly issue commands directly over the serial interface if you don't want to have the overhead of the library. The main advantage of these ones is they're more convenient to work with - they work directly at 5V on the serial line, no additional resistors or capactors required, and the headphone output makes it easy to route the audio output to an amplifier.

Hi Alistair! Could you please tell us what type of amplifier you are using (or what type of amplifier and speakers does the mp3 module need)? Also, would it be possible to connect the module to Bluetooth speaker with a Bluetooth module? Many thanks, I'm a big fan of your work, you do a terrific job!!

Hi Patrick - this is the amp I'm using: www.banggood.com/custlink/mKmdNUHwUw It has Bluetooth functionality but, to be honest, I've never tried using it - I just connect it using a simple 3.5mm audio cable. I use these amplifiers a lot when I want to have localised sound created from within a prop itself, they're small, cheap, and very powerful. If I want to trigger "room" sound effects, I send a message to my Node-RED room controller instead.
