Hi, great video. Thanks, i have 1 question The female (gold where you connect the yellow one) video cable was this already in the car? I have 1 2016 SLC and would placa a cam by myself but cant find this cable? on the back of the Head unit is a connector fold Fakra hsd ( 4 pins) with the text CAM. Maybe the cable with the gold connector is somewhere hidden? does anybody know?

Thanks for this video. I have a question. I have the 2012 SLK350 which looks almost identical to your video. All is clear except what to do with the blue wire called "Backup Sign Scan" up front near the head unit. This is the blue wire going into the relay/filter shown at 27:07/27:10. Maybe it is not necessary to connect to anything and you just cap it off? NOTE: I already programmed the head unit and verified the display changes to rear video feed when I shift into Reverse.

OK I have answers after installing my camera. First I want to say the video was in fact priceless, thanks so much it really helped me to understand what to do. IMPORTANT: all the mercedes connectors have little buttons you need to push to pull out the connector from the socket. Do not just pull on the sockets to unplug the wires. This is true for the 3 under the center console as well as the tail light harness connector. They are not easy to find but they are there and you need to press them to release the clip and then they unplug easily. 1) I got this camera for less than $30 from www.aliexpress.com/item/4000626793489.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.2f354c4dRZqLIH I was afraid that it cost so little that it would not be a good camera, but it was in fact really good, and the wire harness and relay were also good quality. The resolution was very good on the factory Mercedes head unit display. 2) You have to purchase an RCA to Fakra connector to allow the feed to plug into the Mercedes factory head unit. I purchased this one and it worked fine, except you cannot plug it into the head unit while it still has the plastic retaining clip on the wire. Do not cut the wire. You simply look on the side for the black plug, and pull it out of the side. This is a retaining clip and it allows the wire with the correct connector at the end to plug into the Mercedes head unit. The reason you cannot plug it in directly is because there is a double headed green plastic plug already in the spot you need to connect it to. One has a wire already in it, the other is empty and you push the wire into that empty hole in the green connector. Yes I know it does not have a clip, but it seems to mate tightly when inserted even without a clip. . www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QKDHK2J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 3) I did purchase these Posi-tap connectors to tap into the Mercedes wires. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMC5DII/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 4) For the Power, I tapped into the Cigarette Lighter wires both for the power and the ground wire. This turns on power only when the ignition is on. 5) For the Relay to allow power to feed the camera only when I shift into reverse, I tapped into the reverse light wire at the tail light harness, using the blue wire on the "camera end" of the harness. This gave a signal to the relay and that relay then fed power to the camera when I shifted into reverse. I did NOT connect the second blue wire up near the head unit to anything. I just rolled it up and taped it off and left it in the dash. This may be needed for head units that do not automatically shift the display into reverse video feed but the Mercedes can be programmed to tell it you have a camera, and then it will automatically swap the feed to the rear camera input when you shift into reverse. To find the correct wire to tap into, there are 8 wires in the harness, 2 rows of 4 holes. I used a multimeter and inserted a probe into each of the 8 holes with my multimeter ground wire stuck in the trunck at a bracket to retain a good ground contact. I made a diagram that captured the voltage of each wire hole with the vehicle in park and in reverse (not with the engine running). I found that for my 2012 SLK350, Wire Number 8 was the one that I had to tap into.. If you hold the wire harness so you are looking at the holes, with the groves side up and the smooth side down. Some final comments: IMPORTANT - You need to transfer the rectangular gasket from the old License Plate light you are removing and put it on the new light/Camera bracket or the new bracket will be a lose fit and not seat tightly. Since the gasket comes off with the old light you may not notice it. At first I thought the new camera bracket was just a sloppy fit, but once I realized I needed that gasket, the new camera/light bracket snapped into place perfectly with a tight fit and did not rattle around. Also when you are under the steering column trying to release the plastic after you remove the screws, it is still stuck. You will need to push the plastic forward on the right side where it touches the center console carpet, push towards the front of the car to release the right side and then the plastic section will then come loose. About the choice for Power: I think it is good to note that if you do tap into the cigarette lighter for power, you will have a fused circuit (15 Amp) so the camera wiring is protected. You should not have to go to the extra trouble of tapping into the fuse panel directly to get fuse protection on the circuit. The choice is up to you on how comfortable you feel with this but blowing a cigarette lighter fuse should not leave you stranded should something happen to the camera wiring. Good Luck..

Basically I had to plug it into the one connector that had a dual plastic green connector bracket. It was inconvenient because I could not easily plug into that location due to the dual connector plastic housing already occupying both plugs. It already had one wire occupied and one open. I plugged into the open slot of that dual connector. Note that my wire connector that I purchased did not have a 90 degree bend and that’s what the dual plastic connection housing was expecting. So I had to open my wire connector plastic housing end by sliding out a black plastic pin and that let the plastic end open up, and it left me with a wire end with a Fakra wire end point. I was able to push that straight in to the second (open) slot in the dual connector. It did not have a nice clip to hold it in because I removed the plastic housing but pressed in snd had a tight fit and has stayed in nicely fir 4 months now with no issue.
