At one point, there was no such thing as using emojis outside of a few specialty forums, which went out of their way to actually code emoticons into their site. Hence why people used the 'xD' ':3' ect. It's literally a remnant of the old internet, and I personally miss it. Modern emojis don't always hit correctly. lol
