Monkey Keeps Coming Back For More Play With The Gorilla

Continuing from the last video with Tonda and Litchee the Mangabey Monkey in this Mixed species habitat compilation. Awali the silverback from the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon sits at his favourite spot.
Tonda is shooing off the Mangabey, but when doing so Litchee holds on to his arm. Tonda starts biting Litchee. Mum sits on the log. She's called Mandarin.
Tonda and Litchee play some more. When Tonda gets a bit rougher, Mangabey's mum is on standby. Litchee gets away, but even though the blackback starts to be a bit rougher she still comes back for more.
Tonda checks out the female. Litchee gets free, from Tonda's investigation and runs to Mum. Mum isn't as playful as the blackback so back to Tonda. Tonda looks like he's rough with her again or trying to hold her at bay, but it certainly doesn't put Litchee off wanting to play. Tonda had enough and wants to get away from the wild child. Mum Mangabey Mandarin sits close to the window. Awali looking in my/Mandari's direction. Another wrestle between Tonda and Litchee with Mum coming close, watching. Litchee behaves like she had a caffeine overdose.
Watch Tonda's face at the end. First looking in my direction then looking down with that "I didn't do anything" face.

Not sure if she even understands he's a different species; just sees him as an unusually big monkey brother to play with. Monkeys are a very social and high-energy species and when they're growing up their play with each other is extremely rough; ferocious, even. Cats, too; when I fostered mother cats and kittens I was startled at first at how hard they would "play-fight" and was tempted to break it up sometimes. But never any injuries.

What a lovely scene; they play like they're best buddies and the gorilla just seems to know not to hurt the monkey. I wonder if any lonely gorillas who have to live by themselves can be matched with monkey companions? Sometimes it's been found that gorillas that can't live with other gorillas. because they were raised by humans, still get along well with smaller animals of different species, and are very gentle with them. Eg., the famous "talking Gorilla" Koko had several pet cats that she loved dearly.

If they had Litchee in there🙈 oh boy, chaos😂🤣. Did you see that they had the colobus monkeys in with them? I think they were just introducing them during my visit as they were still pretty shy and didn't fully enter their area. Lope did look up when they were there, but that was about it. I wonder how things will develop with that.

@@SloggerVlogger It's a great idea to mix compatible species; don't know why zoos didn't start doing it sooner. It keeps them more stimulated and active and makes it a more natural environment. Plus provides social species with companionship, very much like us humans with our dogs and cats.

There's a female gorilla at a zoo in Chiba, Japan who doesn't get along with other gorillas (the silverback they tried to match her with now lives in an enclosure next to her). She's often seen digging up worms from the ground after it rains and gently holding and examining them, never hurting them. It may not be that she's lonely, just finds them interesting, but it's still sad.
