Thank you so much for explaining the "de te ne le" concept. I was struggling to find a pattern in which sounds get palatalised and which don't. Now it makes perfect sense!

Awesome video! This was very helpful. What dialect do you speak that the "le" and "li" sounds are not softened?

It's the Bratislava dialect. Some other dialects don't soften other pairs (or any at all) - regions like Záhorie or Trnava

There's a large database of Slovak folk/national literature provided by the SME newspaper over here: zlatyfond.sme.sk/ If I were to cover them, I would probably read them out with text in both English and Slovak. Might do so in the future :)

Just a feature of the language! i and y are used to represent the same sound in different contexts in writing, especially depending on the consonants around them.
