hello fellow checklist enthusiast! from across the pond! lol don't worry i have a few geese connections if sh!t goes down, our friends down south know all about them, but our adversaries would be none the wiser ;) until they get in honking range at least, similar to the concept of the Jericho Trumpets on dive bombers in ww2 lol

Their Merlin engine is what made the Spitfire the powerhouse it was, and the adoption of that same engine for the P-51 is what turned it from mediocre to amazing, so they should get more credit than they do for their engines.

Ik it kinda ruins the joke to explain it but rolls royce is technically two companies, they make some amazing jet engines and have history in aerospace since ww1, made some iconic kit as well, spitfires all had rolls engines, P51 Mustang variant (P51d iirc) used a licenced version of a rolls royce engine List could go on but think the point comes across

I kinda find it funny how Canada's military history used to be treated as a complete joke at best but mostly ignored in the 90's and 2000 and now we are portrayed like this blood thirsty psychopath... though it is somewhat deserved to a degree... I don't know why but when I got in fights when I was younger I would become vicious and ruthless despite being a pacifist at heart. It's as if we repress those brutal instincts so much in our social environment that we form a black hole out of compacting them. Once we get the go-ahead and the occasion is nigh, we extract that ball of malice from our heart and from it, a big bang event happens; birthing infinite possibilities of creative ways to hurt our enemies. I did stuff I regret to this day, 25 years later, they asked for it really. Years of harassment and violence before I let myself loose... but I think the scariest thing is that I liked it in the moment, I found the pain I was feeling and I was dishing liberating everything was simpler in the moment, they hurt me I hurt them ten time over so they stop, simple as that. A French guy living here for the past 40 years has described to me the social ethos differences between France and Canada as follows: In France people start conflicts by insulting you and yelling and throwing their weight around pretty quickly in France but rarely come to blows, lots of bluster, not a lot of bang. In Quebec Canada, you step on our foot we say I'm sorry, you step again more intently on our foot and we ask I'm sorry? then you do it a third time and we procede to remove your head from your neck with extreme prejudice without a word... he was hyperbolic of course but he isn't wrong, we do tend to try to avoid conflicts but once you prove to us that you don't share that intent through repeated acts we tend to go to the nuclear option instantly. There is no escalation, no half measure, no mercy, no surrenders, no prisoners. I think it might be because we are not used to day to day conflicts so we become a bit like grenades emotionally, you can't ask a grenade to blow up just a bit the pin is either on or off... and it has a clearly mutually self-destructive aspect. Maybe someone has some insights on the subject? I'm actually curious...

Russia using "Enemy at the Gates" for their mobilization strategy in Ukraine shows a certain level of desperation. The last time Russia resorted to such measures the war wasn't going so well for them. At least in WWII they had the excuse of having lost 25-30% of their territory and had lost access to a huge chunk of their manpower contained in that occupied territory.
