Internationally acclaimed Norwegian-born singer Sissel performed "Slow Down," by Chuck Girard and arranged by Sam Cardon, during the 2019 Pioneer Day Concert with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. This was a stand-out moment in the concert that brought on many tears and a standing ovation each night. Sissel expresses emotion and meaning through lyrics and music like no other.
Lyrics:
In the midst of my confusion
In the time of desperate need
When I am thinking not too clearly
A gentle voice does intercede
Slow down, slow down, be still
Be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord
Slow down and hear His voice
And know that He is God
In the time of tribulation
When I'm feeling so unsure
When things are pressing in about me
Comes a gentle voice so still, so pure
Slow down, slow down, be still, my child
Be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord
Slow down and hear His voice
And know that He is God
And know that He is God
Audiences still have not forgotten Sissel’s stunning performances at the Choir and Orchestra’s 2006 Christmas concerts and still regard her as one of the favorite guests of the Choir. The concert was shown in 2007 on PBS stations to 4 million viewers around the country. The Christmas CD, Spirit of the Season, was #1 on Billboard’s Classical chart for nine weeks and was nominated for two Grammy® awards.

May His face shine upon you. May you journey through with dignity & blessed assurance. 2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us, 'And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.'

My Sister and I fell into a habit of finding music on KZbin and playing it to each other. Because I have always loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I stumbled across this beautiful song. I played it to my Sister who cried upon hearing it. Like me, she thought it was one of the most beautiful songs she had ever heard. Sadly, my sister died in January this year. I played this at her funeral and it had almost all the congregation in tears too. Though it brings me sadness, I keep coming back to listen to it time and time again.

I saw this live in 2019. There wasn’t a dry eye in the entire conference center. I cry every time I hear this. Any one with any light within their soul will feel the presence of God while listening to this magnificent song. Inspired music is a window to Heaven and a gateway to the soul.

I was there too. It was magical. I just remember the transcendent feeling in the room how everyone was completely silent and the only person in the room was her. And then at the end when we all applauded for nearly 5 minutes. And she was worried she couldn’t do justice to the song. This is still the song I listen to when I’m having an anxiety attack

Hearing this for the first time was such a spiritual moment for me. I was not even there at the event. I saw a video that the arranger Sam Cardon let me watch before it went public. I cried for about 15 minutes in silence afterward. I was speechless. Her purity. Her sincere performance. Her humility and tranquility blew me away beyond words. Thank you, Sissel, Sam Cardon, Tabernacle Choir, and Orchestra at Temple Square. And thanks be to God. You gave us a piece of Heaven right here in this moment.

I played this song over and over again for my 91-year-old Daddy during his last couple of days on earth. He was such a busy, hurry-up, go-getter of a man, that growing old and facing his own mortality came as a big surprise to him, I think. He was anxious and fidgety in bed, not used to lying still or resting. Worried for his state of mind and ability to feel at peace, I played this song for him to try to bring a measure of a restful spirit into the room. I hope that it helped him to feel God close by Him and the permission he needed to be able to rest and to know that everything is going to be alright. So that my Dad could just relax and know that "He [God] IS God"! [emphasis added]. This song brought comfort to my heart also and brought great peace to me, my family and to others who were there at the time. I not only feel a great Spirit of my Father in Heaven in this song, but with it, feel that Sissel brings a spirit to this song that all of the comments can only describe as Heavenly. For me? It's as if the beauty and spirit of this song ignites a memory for me of a time in heaven, where we were being cared for and sung lullabies to by our First Mother and maybe by other nurturing angels accompanying her, in heaven. We are all so special and loved and it's as if this song testifies to each of us, that we once were nurtured and filled with these feelings of care and love at one time, and that though we can't see or remember it, that kind of love for us still exists! ❤️❤️❤️

I am a trauma responder. After discovering this "angel with the voice of God," I have used her to communicate God's unconditional love and presence to those I work with. How do you put into words the feeling of being touched by grace? "Awesome, humbled, blessed" don't begin to express it. There are many words used to describe God's presence. Sissel is another. Much, much love and thanks from those in "desperate need."

I was blessed to be at this concert and was impressed with not only the music and words and pure beauty of Sissel's voice, but more importantly what you do not see in this wonderful video. As you see and hear the ovations in the audience, I stood with gratitude with what seemed to be everyone to cheer her on, with tears in our eyes. In my mind's eye, even in spirit, I felt that at moments in our lives, we, too are being supported with love and appreciation. I know that the veil from this life to the next being thin, that there are those loved ones who are pleading and praying, in their own way, for our success. Even cheering us on!

It was last April 19, 2020 when I audibly heard my late hubby”s voice “Hello dear” & thereafter heard him sang ONE of his favorite songs “Slow Down” I was moved to tears and left the kitchen. I went out to gasp for fresh air. Outside, i was gently “embraced” by the cool breeze, for three times. After my crying time, I went back to the house & looked for this song on KZbin & Voila! I got Sissel’s song, my first time to have heard it on KZbin. Since then, sissel has become a great company whether am in my bed or at the kitchen. Her VOICE sounds like AN ANGEL-gently whispering each word with such assurance that God is at hand! God bless and more LOVE & POWER !

I totally agree; this is as good as it gets with music. God clearly blessed Sissel for a good reason, she brings great joy and she feels every word she is singing because she loves God - that much is obvious. At the end, she is so overwhelmed by the standing ovation, she cannot hold back her tears. she is my favourite voice of this and the last millennia and I play her music often on my weekly classical music programme on 101fm Australia. I was praying this evening when I was reminded of this song, sung by Sissel and performed with the Tabernacle Choir. I had to look it up and listen to it, which I did twice and bookmarked. It is so precious. I needed this message tonight and would do well to listen to it more often.

Slow Down - Sissel (2019 Pioneer Concert with The Tabernacle Choir) This song became my favorite the moment I heard it. It spoke to my heart and gave me comfort amid a very fast paced life. So, I slowed down to listen to this music each day and allowed myself to slow down before I would pick up the daily momentum. I felt the Lord's love whisper to my heart, though not audible, He taught me, 'You are more able when you give over your burdens to me, and allow me to carry them with you.' Then and there I was affirmed that I knew that God cares for his children, and we need to simply trust Him and see his hand in our lives. I thank God for the beauties of this earth, and for learning the importance of slowing down to notice them. I am thankful for talented ones who shared messages that increased my faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. "Slow Down and Know that He is God.... " Dear Sissel, and Brother Mac Wilberg, and to all of the Tabernacle Choir Members and musicians and celebrities who have performed over the years at Temple Square, Thank YOU for contributing such beauty into this world. Thank YOU.

I love how at the last note she feels the love coming from the Tabernacle Choir. Classic. This song is a huge message that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints know. The Tabernacle choir with Sissel was an amazing mix with this message. That was why there were so many roaring and a standing ovation at the end.

This recording is now available on iTunes. An amazing performance at every level. Flawless and angelic with incredible voice and instrumentals. Moving both emotionally and spiritually. The lyrics are what I need to remember when I feel anxious - God is love and He loves to give us His peace if we will do as He invites “Be still and know that I am God”. I thank the Lord, and Sissel and this volunteer choir and orchestra for the gift of this hymn. The standing ovation was well deserved.

It was an amazing experience to perform with #Sissel in our #TabChoir concert in July. I love the message of this song: "Slow down, slow down, be still. Be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord. Slow down and hear His voice, And know that He is God." Likely nobody in the audience that night had ever heard the song. Sissel performed it so beautifully that there was a standing ovation from the 18,000 people who were there in the Conference Center!

I was there. A few bars into the song, and I realized, something unexpected was happening, a powerful Spiritual feeling had descended on me and on the totally silent thousands around me. I was a bit surprised at how subtle yet forceful the Spirit was as Sissel sang "Slow Down."- something very special was happening. The spontaneous standing ovation by nearly 18,000 people is etched into my emotional memory.

I cannot get enough of this song. It is my favorite meditation song now. As one with ADHD and too much on my plate, I am always rushing and hurrying and feeling panicked for something. I still get anxiety after a lot of years of work, even though PTSD is basically gone. But this song literally takes it down and makes me cry. It doesn't matter how many times I listen to it. Her voice and this song are so healing. Thankyou Sissel for your gift! The spirit is so strong in this song and I think it is why so many gave you a standing ovation. We are sick in spirit with the weight of the world. This song brings us back to ourselves.
