I'm still a beginner when it comes to improvising with the Dorian mode... and this backing track is perfect for me. Nice and slow and easy to follow the chord changes. First track I've been able to lay a solid groove over. Thanks man!

i love practicing to this track and thought it would be fun to write a song over the chord "progression". lmk if you'd like to hear it. maybe we could collaborate. basically it's finished but would like to use your bassline, keys and so forth. but w new drums. ;)

Sounds great and easy to let loose on this one. Yes A dorian works fine. I think some players just get hung up on the theory and cant remember that its all about the feel. If they cant work A Dorian over this then I would say they may have went to music school but most likely failed. Learn to feel it and let just enough theory in to understand where the notes are. Awesome track and keep up the good work.

That's absolutely right Michael. Use a major scale instead. Modes are major scales starting on a different degree of the scale anyway. Too much thinking about scales etc gets in the way. As you say: just enough theory. Rest is feeling and listening.

Really sounds more like E minor to me. I do not hear A being the resolving note at any time in this track. If you don't believe me, try it. Play a phrase and end on A, then try ending on E. You'll find the A hangs while the E resolves.

B flat min7 is not part of A Dorian.
@gtrsuite10 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is. Because Its a minor chord. So it works well. Why? Because as long as the 3rd chord is a minor (dorian being the II, the III in this case, (a minor chord) then playing over it in the dorian mode works well. Remember the order of the modes, then relate them to the assumed mode (this case, dorian). I (maj), II (minor-the dorian mode), III (minor-the Phrygian mode), IV (major-the Lydian mode), etc...

Oooop,s sorry. I didn't see the Bb! hahahahaha. My bad. All that 'slainin', and I misread your post! EEK! Gotta get my eyes checked.

its just a passing chord, as long as you dont play it for too long its "legal" its going chromatically back to the Am
