Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

From Guam USA, Hawaii here. We are so fortunate to live so close to Asia that slow pitch jigging is almost the norm here. Happy to see it’s catching on in the mainland. It’s not about loading up a cooler of the same fish, it’s about what am I gonna catch today with this brilliant piece of metal and extremely thin braid.

MrJeff0063 - If you want to learn more about Slow Pitch Jigging techniques look up "TheFIshingKit" channel on KZbin. He does educational fishing content to help others learn and improved their fishing (slow pitch jigging) skills etc. One other thing... HIGH QUALITY slow pitch jigging rods and reels combo can be had for less than 200 bucks from Asia, but not from the states. However, information are suppressed so American don't know about it. Just an FYI... Hope this information helps!

Dear Captain, thank you for this seminar with so much good information but with some points that I disagree with. For example, I do not agree that any fishing rod costing less than $ 500 is bad. There are many rods on the market for lower values that make a great alternative to top brands and models. Another point where I completely disagree with you is when you say that in SPJ the jig is not animated with the rod but only with the reel. I think you should review your options because in any type of SPJ action (Slow Pitch, High Pitch or Long Fall) you can use the lifting movement as the reel to load the rod, and in the last two you must do so. Best Regards

Excellent tutorial, like all of your videos! I do a lot of slow-pitch jigging lately & lost many fish & expensive lures to our toothy predators, such as king mackerel, barracuda, etc., because of the braided hook ties. The fix, I switched out all of my braided hook connections to wire connections, and also added a six to eight inch wire leader to my lure/fluorocarbon connection. It worked, as you can see for yourself by clicking on my Marlin, blue icon to the left ...

rod builder here, this video is a great instructional! I will say though "spines on rods are a myth they are all made from material rolled on to a mandrel, there is a natural point that the rod "snaps" to which is what people call the spine but you will not break the rod by bending left or right, you will if you high stick it or grab the tip and bend a short section. fortunately id does not happen often even when your running a charter outfit where high sticks happen all the time.

@Discov110 you don't need a 1500 dollar rig, but it is fun to use one, you can use a spinning set up for under 500 that will work, but if you can spend 1500 I don't think you'll regret it, just don't tell the wife 😮. Braid let's you put more line on a spinning real, you just got to have enough line to reach 400'-800' down. The spinning reals seem to have better drags, the conventional reels are more like a winch....FishOn.....jimi

Great video. Learned alot. Kind of confused though around 1:15 though. You are saying you are imparting action on the rod itself only by turning the reel handle and not actively jigging the rod itself? I know this isnt vertical speed jigging but you still need to move the rod AND crank the reel handle in combination, albiet much slower and subtle than speed jigging. Even all the Benny Ortiz videos show jigging the rod with and without retrieving line. Can you elaborate?

Bigger line don’t work past about 300’ though no matter how heavy the jig and it better have an aluminum reel seat....

I think the uni knot is better especially for braid.
@jeffsmith8255 жыл бұрын
He's not using braid to the jig but I have decided the best knot is the one you tie perfectly each time. I like uni knots too but if someone is super confident in an improved clinch knot then that works too. The difference in strength is so minute it comes down to what you have confidence in tying. At least that's what I think.
@virusthewolf Жыл бұрын
Uni knot is great but very hard to cinch correctly with line over 40lbs. matter fact at 60lbs it's almost impossible to cinch and finish correctly. if you watch many of the videos online they all mentioned the same problem. also, if there is huge difference in diameter between both line it becomes an issue. especially with braid to mono/fluro.

This line is excellent for all jigging needs. The colors change every 10 meters so if you're in Murica, you might need to calculate the depth in feet but with slow pitch, you're going to the bottom each time so not really needed. Good for knowing how far off the bottom you are and can also be used when vertical jigging in situations where you need to know how deep you are without the bottom being in reach. www.1stopfishing.com/shop/shimano-ocea-ex8-pe-line/ It's what I use on all my slow pitch and vertical jigging rods and have for the last 4 years or so. Very smooth, very strong, great knots. Until something better comes along, I don't have a need to change. Get some PE spray to condition / protect it, rinse properly and store out of UV and it will last quite a while. I've got 3+ years on a few of my rods and haven't had a need to re-spool yet.

@@MrT13 sure, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use these for say pier fishing. Sure the rods may be hyper specific but the reels have been around for a while.

when you have a lot of toothy fish do you use wire assists? i cant find a material i really like that's tooth proof but still has the movement you need
@gaijinfishing5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use steel assist hooks when the toothy critters are biting off jigs. I keep one single silver / glow striped jig in my tackle box with steel assist hooks and a small steel leader near the head for when the wahoo are thick and are biting off lures / baits. If I lose a jig to a hoo, I instantly swap to the pre-rigged (up-armored) jig and use it until the toothy fish move on. I also use this rig when fishing for ribbonfish / cutlass fish at night with success. Here is a link to the style I use. www.pecheur.com/en/gb/buy-assist-hook-decoy-dj-89-pack-of-2-50408.html I don't see any ill effects from the action of the hooks. If I'm vertical jigging, I just run hooks at the top of the jig. If I'm slow pitching, I run hooks at both ends and don't see a real difference compared to regular assists as far as action. I'm sure it's limited a bit but it still produces plenty of fish and stops me from losing 20 dollar jigs while missing really nice fish. There are other types but this style works well for me.

I size leader line do you use, 50lbs?

You want to be tied direct to braid. Poly lines stretch too much for proper action. You want zero stretch.

Captain Mike recommends them in their last slow pitch jigging tv show I bought some. Look up Malta tackle, then the Seafloor Control jigs. They are a bit pricey especially no hooks, I haven’t fished them yet but they look great. You can look up the you tube videos to see action.

@@briankogan6871 SFC are spendy but they work really well. The other really good brand IMO is Deep Liner. Xesta has some good lures but SFC and DL are my favorites.
@idratherbefission5 жыл бұрын
SFC are fantastic jigs, but sometimes its not economically feasible to replace 4-6 jigs per trip at a average of $16-$30 a piece. Luckily, as Slow Pitch starts to become more mainstream, the replicas will be more and more readily available. Try Tackleworld.com (used to be jigging world). They have many jigs extremely similar to the OG JDM jigs without the huge price tag. I've had very good success on the Qubee, and falling angel jigs. Diawa SK jigs are pretty great as well. Williamson has a few jigs as well that have good action as well.
